Dear Ana:
If there will be translation , I suggest Luisa from Peru.
Otherwise I would suggest one of our FTF from ASIA or if the desition in
only one person from Africa to attend the Montevideo FTF, then the other
could be propose for the CRIAW Forum in Canada.
Best regards
Marcela Ballara

Dear all,
I received the invitation below, and sent a response to which they have
already responded. The dates coincide with the Montevideo meeting. Can any
of you go? If not, can you think of anyone from the FTF we could ask to
represent us?
Let's see if we can come up with a names.
Thanks,
Ana

Thanks for getting back to me promptly. Here is the additional
information regarding our Forum:
Location: Ottawa, Canada
Dates: Speaker should arrive on May 3rd and could leave on the evening
of the 6th.
Funding: We have received funding from CIDA to cover all expenses,
however, the person must come from a country which is on CIDA’s list.
I unfortunately think that identifying someone after Easter is too late,
given that visas are required. As well if someone from the FTF cannot
attend we would like to use the funds to invite someone else.
For us it would be important for the person to be able to speak about
the importance of integrating a feminist anti-poverty strategy into
GCAP, the struggles, obstacles and victories.
Please let me know again if you need more information,
lise

Dear Lise,
thank you very much for the invitation. The activity seems to be a very
interesting one and I think it is very important for the FTF to be
present.
I went to your website and noticed that the dates coincide with the GCAP
Global Meeting (that will take place here in Montevideo from 3 to 5
May). But of course not all FTF members will come and we hope that one
will be able to be present at your meeting in Canada. Will you be able
to fund that person?
I do not think that we can reply who will be attending until after
Eastern. Is that too late?
I look forward to your comments on this and I really hope that a
represenative from the FTF will be able to join you in Canada. In order
to take a decision, it would be great to have further information that
we can circulate (city where it will be held, expected days of
participation, and any other information you think is relevant to know
for the person who will be attending).
Thanks!! and thanks again for inviting us!
Greetings,
Ana

Subject: invitation to CRIAW Forum
March 28th, 2007
Dear Ana,
I am writing on behalf of the Canadian Research Institute for the
Advancement of Women (we are on the GCAP list serve). Our organization
is a small (despite its large name) non-profit organization which has by
and large functioned as the research arm of the Canadian Women’s
movement. Our current strategic plan (2004-2008) has as its focus
“economic and social justice: overcoming women’s poverty and exclusion”.
It is within this context that we are organizing a national forum on
“Women Resisting Poverty and Exclusion: Alternative Visions and
Practices”.
During the Forum will we hold three plenary sessions on the following
topics:
* Women’s Alternative Visions in Resisting Poverty and Social
Exclusion
* Feminist Anti-Poverty Strategies
* Organizing Among Diverse Groups of Women– 21st century
challenges for feminism
I am contacting you today to see if a representative from the Feminist
Task Force could attend the forum and speak on the plenary on feminist
anti-poverty strategies. We have developed the following description of
the panel:
Subsuming discussions of poverty within economic policies alone allows
issues of social justice, rights and accountability to be overlooked.
The root causes of women’s poverty and exclusion, be they racism, sexism
or regional isolation to name a few, are complex and most often linked
to one another. Pro-active poverty elimination must be based on
recognizing the interconnected barriers that make certain groups of
women more vulnerable than others.
As feminist researchers and activists we know that women’s poverty
cannot be addressed through band-aid solutions. What would a feminist
anti-poverty strategy look like? Who are our allies and how can we
ensure that feminist anti-poverty strategies make their way into wider
strategies such as the Make Poverty History Campaign?
We have just been notified that we were successful in obtaining funding
from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) which is why
we are quite late in doing our invitations.
I do hope that a representative of the feminist task force of GCAP will
be able to attend and look forward to providing you with further
information. I invite you to visit our website at www.criaw-icref.ca
<http://www.criaw-icref.ca/> where there is further information on the
Forum.
I can be contacted at (613) 563-0681 ext. 226 or by email at
lmartin en criaw-icref.ca.
