Hello again,

I'm apparantly wrong about:

Just an FYI, the media team and the communications team is one and the same.

They are having 2 separate calls-one today-media and the other tomorrow. Too much!

Best,

Rosa
P.S. Pam, FTF is not involved in civil society forum in Geneva.

Hi Chona,

Thanks for your input. All these calls have me spinning, too. I think people are realizing its a lot. Anyway, I agree with your point that we should regularize the FTF calls. Since we just started this and the have been centered around specific issues, I don't think the need to be so often. What do other people think?

I hear you about the time difference. The 9 or 10 seems late. For the most part, people have been good about e-mailing but its good to have some talk time as well to compare notes and get synergy going.

Just an FYI, the media team and the communications team is one and the same. Is anyone else interested in covering the e-comm or media/comm task force? There's a call of the media tf tomorrow.

Thanks again. Cheers,

Rosa

Hi Rosa and Ana and everyone,

Thank you for sending all these information re what is coming out from the task forces--indeed we are getting more information than before and we are very happy for this. All these telecons and chats happening simultaneously have me abit confused. Thanks Ana and Rosa for clarifying on this.

If I remember right, I have been assigned to be a member of the ecomm task force, and I have to say I have been abit lacking on this--but I have noted your comments re lack of FTF visibility at the new website, and as there is an ecomm chat today 30May, I will raise this issue.

But that is as far as my membership in the task forces goes, I am not a member of the communications and or media task forces. If you think that we as FTF should be in these taskforces, then I would volunteer to be a member of the Communications task force, but another one from the FTF should volunteer for the Media taskforce--though related, I think that some sort of media expertise is needed for the latter one.

Sorry to have missed the chat conferences--but I hope to be more available for the next chat. What do we think is the regularity for the chat--every two weeks, or every month? I have abit of problem re time difference--1pmGMT is 9:00pm Manila time, much more if tis for 2pmGMT!  Also I get your messages in the evening so that the first chance i can reply on this is the next day, like this instance. I hope we can rationalise the time and regularity for these discussions!

Re the Asia maternal mortality/MDG5 workshop, we are abit behind in schedule and beset by conflicting priorities.  As such, we are looking at postponing the event to September (Lysa still needs to get back to me re finalisation of dates). Also, SENCA has raised abit of money for this, about USD25K which should cover travel, accommodations and meeting costs for 30 participants in a Bangkok meeting. Funds coming from Oxfam Novib. But we would like to have an additional FTF representative join us for the meeting.

cheers,
chona

Hi,

Thanks, Ana.  Hi Chona and others, on our call today as Ana stated, Ciara from the new media and communications team (created in or right after Montevideo) was reporting on stuff during the Mobilization call as well as the GCAP Ambassadors team call which came right after the Mob call. It seems the major information flow for communications and media is now with this new task force. I agree that we need to cover that call and that perhaps, you-Chona, can continue the work through this task force which is very active right now.  We have to be ever-vigilant if not our work seems to disappear or get tucked away.  I would be working closely with you, Chona, on the Mob Task Force since there is some overlap.  Chona, please let US know tonight if you can make the call.

Let me update you all quickly on the Mob Task Force and Ambassadors group.

The Ambassadors group is a subset of the Mob Task Force and we are looking at naming some high profile and "not as high profile yet just as important- "unsung" heroes/people living in poverty/grassroots activists" as ambassadors/spokespersons for the mobilizations.  I am making a call to request names for the UNSUNG HEROES/GRASSROOTS AMBASSADORS, particularly people from the South who are good, strong speakers, living in poverty or having been l-i-pov, activist for poverty eradication or an associated issue, e.g. education to get people out of poverty or job training.  We need to have a list by June 15, so this give us about 2 1/2 weeks.  I would like to say we need the names by June 12th for us to review names and then present them to the Ambassadors group.

There will be TWO websites---one will continue as whiteband.org for a more regional or national focus, with constituencies feeding into it.  Henri is in charge of this one.  The other will be the Stand Up, Speak Out in collaboration with the UNMillennium Campaign for the Oct. 17th mobilization.  These require gender equality input.  I was suggesting to Ana that our SLOGAN/LOGO:  "GENDER EQUALITY TO END POVERTY" be placed on the Stand Up and that we maintain our FTF GCAP logo on the other.

We need to have INFORMATION ON EVENTS/PANELS/DEMONSTRATIONS around women's activism for the G-8 Meeting.  Thanks for those who have sent something.  If you have anything, please send it to forward to Henri (his civicus e-mail is out of service for a week--all of the civicus e-mails in fact.  Mail to hvalot en yahoo.fr: <mailto:hvalot en yahoo.fr> ).

This is all, my friends.  Take care,

Rosa

Dear Chona, we just had a call of some members of the Facilitation team and Rosa reported on the meeting she just had on mobilisation. There is a concern on our side that for the stand up mobilisation gender messages are not present. This is also reflected on the website. As you all certainly recall, in the old website there was a whole section on the FTF to which you could access by clicking on our logo (FTF: gender equality to end poverty). In the new webiste there is no link. In fact, the logo of the FTF is no where to be found. As the representative of the FTF in the communications team Chona, we think you should ask those responsible for the website to ensure that there is a link to the FTF as there used to be. This is very important. You should also ensure that the mobilisations that are being prepared for October 17 include gender messages as agreed upon by the FTF in our various meetings. GCAP is growing in groups and task forces and we must ensure that we are represented where we need to be. As the representative to the e- communications team, we think Chona that you should also represent us at the media team, as they are doing very similar work. I look forweard to your comments Chona so we can see how we move from here to ensure our presence back at the website and at the main GCAP mobilisations. Thanks!!! Ana
