Dear colleagues from the Facilitation Team,
we have received the guidance to apply for funds for the tribunals on gender and climate change (see below).
For the time being the tribunals confirmed are the ones in India (this one is already covered in terms of funds) and in Belem. Nepal is also considering holding a tribunal. Sharmila will be sending information on this respect. We are exploring a possibility in Europe, and there is also a possibility in Botswana. As you see below, the deadline for presentation is 24 August. I will put all the proposals together as one proposal from the FTF. So I need from those of you who will be running the tribunals to send me all the information at the latest by next week. If you have any doubts, write to me or Rosa, or call me using Skype (my Skype name is anajairo2)
I look forward to your comments.
Greetings,
Ana

COP15 AND CLIMATE JUSTICE POVERTY HEARINGS FUNDING – YOUR PROPOSAL
Following the success of last year’s Poverty Hearings organised by the Feminist Task Force, Oxfam has offered some funding to support the staging of Climate Justice Poverty Hearings as a mobilisation tool on the road to the UNFCCC in Copenhagen. We need to hear about the reality on the ground, and about potential transformation that people can come up with in agriculture, enterprise and energy infrastructure, if given half a (financial) chance….Then we can approach politicians at all levels – not just with problems and claims but with proposals….
If you would like to apply for this funding, you need to submit a proposal by August 25th. Following the first selection, there will be a second round of applications with deadline for September 25th.
We will consider applications for funding from around USD5,000 to USD12,000. You will need to include in your application:
1.. Details about the event, including date, objectives, plan
2.. An outline of how the hearing fulfils the criteria for application, please address each point separately
3.. A budget
4.. Agreement to sign a contract on successful application
5.. Proof that there is a legal entity to receive and manage the funds
Selection will be based on the submission of proposals, which must fulfil the following criteria:
1.. The proposal must come from an active national coalition or constituency group with a previous track record of impactful anti-poverty campaigning in their country/constituency, including mass mobilization
2.. The proposal must demonstrate a strong link between climate change campaigning and other GCAP strategic objectives (e.g. gender justice and/or financing for development)
3.. The proposal must include a clear description of how the hearing would contribute to leveraging political pressure at a national and/or regional level, and at an international level where relevant
4.. There must be a clear explanation of how the national coalition will include mass mobilisation as the main or significant element of their proposal, and confirm that numbers attending any mass mobilisation events will be counted and these numbers (rather than the data) is forwarded on to the Global Campaign for Climate Action to contribute to a global total for Copenhagen
5.. Each proposal must include a plan for communicating the climate hearing(s) to a wide audience, including the use of media work, and creating high quality footage/images of the testimony given at the hearing(s).
6.. The proposal must demonstrate how campaigning on climate change in that country/constituency group will be sustained after the hearing
7.. The proposal must include a sound monitoring and evaluation plan
8.. If possible, the proposal must include a link between climate change campaigning and the Stand Up 2009 mobilisation
Please send your completed proposals by August 24th to Fionuala Cregan (fionuala.cregan en whiteband.org), with ‘Climate Justice Hearing’ clearly marked in the subject line
The GCAP Feminist Task Force are already organising Climate Change Poverty Hearings focusing on women, please get in touch with Ana Agostino (ana en icae.org.uy) for more information.
