Dear Marta / Ana,
I am including the content on the mobilization around on 8 March 2009 in
India:
Women’s Manifesto demands Equal Share of Power and Resources
8 March 2009, New Delhi
For the political leaders of India, International Women’s Day was marked by
a call to prioritize the women’s agenda in their election manifestos - as
outlined in the Women’s Manifesto that emerged through the first phase of
the All India People’s Manifesto initiative co-ordinated across 27 States
and 2 Union Territories by Wada Na Todo Abhiyan.
Education for Girls enforced by law, enactment of the Women’s Reservation
Bill and the stronger implementation of the Domestic Violence Act were the
three key demands that emerged recurrently in the Local Manifestos that have
been released across 100 parliamentary constituencies so far, and with the
involvement of more than 230,000 people.
Equally significant were the range of measures that have been proposed to
strengthen the economic role and participation of women which reflect a
strong claim for their rightful share of the nation’s resources. Demands in
this context include making the accordance of Farmer Status for women
engaged in agriculture, the creation of assets for women a pre-requisite for
all developmental programs and enforcing the equal participation of women
not only as beneficiaries and as decision makers in the committees set up to
oversee public programs.
The relevance of the Women’s Manifesto is that each demand has emerged from
the local level and therefore reflects the realities and expectations of the
people of India. Collectively, the demands present a composite and
completely do-able national agenda for women which no political party can
afford to ignore.

Hi Ana,
I'm sorry I didn't have more time to deal with this but I've gone through
all of the report with track changes. The only parts that need to be
developed a bit more are:
G20 participation
WWG - including the most recent Women's Consultation - report is not yet out
but we can gather from the concluding emails. I sent one out.
CSW - we had an event and it doesn't appear here---???
--- SORRY, DON’T HAVE THAT MUCH TIME TO FINISH---I’LL RETURN TO COMPUTER
TONIGHT. I have meetings now and throughout the afternoon. Looks good!
Looks like we did a lot of work!
Best,
Rosa
