Dear all,
I received this invitation to contribute to the next issue of Equlas with an
article on gender and climate change. I will not have the time to write it
but I want to share it with all of you as some of you might be interested in
writing. The deadline for submission is October 5. Please let me know if you
are interested so I can respond to the editor. Thanks!
Ana

Subject: Contributing to Equals newsletter
Dear Ana
Ben Margolis passed your contact details on to me, as he thought that
you might be interested in contributing to the next issue of Equals
newsletter, on gender and
climate change.
The Equals newsletter on Gender, Education and International
Development is produced by the Beyond Access Project – a joint Oxfam
and Institute of Education initiative. The Beyond Access project
sought to bring together academics, policy makers and practitioners
working on gender equality and education in order to contribute to
achieving MDG3 - gender equality and the empowerment of women. This is
reflected in Equals, which brings together these different groups of
constituents both in terms of its contributors and audience.
This issue of Equals will focus on gender and climate change. We
would like to commission articles looking at the connections between
gender equality, education and climate change/sustainable development,
highlighting projects that are bringing these issues together and
discussing the gendered nature of climate change. Ben mentioned that
might be able to write an article commenting on the gender and
education dimensions of forthcoming climate change negotiations at
Copenhagen. That would be an interesting and very timely addition to
the issue, although if you have any other ideas for relevant issues
that you would like to write on, please let me know.
Equals is read by a wide range of people from different backgrounds,
countries and sectors. We therefore ask authors to write in as an
accessible a way as possible, using clear and informal language and
avoiding jargon or complicated technical terms. Theoretical or
conceptual arguments should be kept to a minimum, and if they are used
they should be explained as clearly as possible. Articles should be
800-1500 words, and should be as lively and engaging as possible:
personal experiences and reflections are particularly encouraged to
help bring articles to life.
If you think you would like to write something for Equals, please
contact me to discuss your idea. The final deadline for submission
of the article would be Monday 5 October 2009, but I would be willing
and available before then to comment on your draft article. We cannot
offer any remuneration, but articles will be read by the newsletter's
many readers in the policy, practitioner and academic communities,
making this a great opportunity to gain exposure for yourself and your
organisation's work.
I attach a recent copy of the newsletter, for your information.
I look forward to hearing from you.
With warm wishes,
Joanna
