PAREN DE MATAR
 
Imaginemos que estamos tomando un té al sol con los vecinos. Imaginemos 
que los niños están en la escuela. Imaginemos que vamos en un taxi a 
una reunión de negocios en la City, o en un carrito de caballos a 
levantar la cosecha. Imaginemos que salimos del trabajo para volver a 
casa. 
Ahora imaginemos que en un solo segundo se oscureció el sol y los 
vecinos sangran y mueren al lado nuestro. Imaginemos que la escuela 
desapareció. Imaginemos que al llegar a la reunión no reconocemos el 
lugar o que no queda nadie vivo en el campo para levantar las 
cosechas. Ahora imaginemos que no hay casa donde podamos volver. 
Imaginemos que nuestro país es el Líbano.
 
No puede haber paz si no hay personas para construirla. No hay derechos 
humanos si no hay seres humanos para disfrutarlos.  Con el argumento 
de lograr un "alto al fuego sustentable", se puede no querer el ALTO AL 
FUEGO?  La paz no puede ser nunca excusa para la guerra. Con el 
argumento de impedir la muerte no se puede salir a matar.
 
El pensamiento único y los fundamentalismos de cualquier tipo, sea 
católico, judío o musulmán, sean fundamentalismos religiosos, 
económicos o políticos,  niegan a la humanidad en su diversidad y  
legitiman mecanismos violentos de sujeción de un grupo sobre otro, de 
una persona sobre otra. Esencialmente excluyentes y belicosos, los 
fundamentalismos minan la edificación de un proyecto de Humanidad donde 
todas las personas tengan derecho a tener derechos. 
 
Nosotras, mujeres latinoamericanas que durante las dictaduras hemos 
vivido bajo el terrorismo de estado, que sabemos del dolor y de la 
muerte en nuestros pueblos, sabemos también del valor de la solidaridad 
y la organización de la gente. Solidaridad y organización que ahora es 
imprescindible para exigir el INMEDIATO CESE AL FUEGO en el Líbano 
y Palestina y el retiro de las tropas isrelíes.
 
Ahora imaginemos una reunión de las Naciones Unidas. Imaginemos que en 
lugar de comunicados inconducentes y abstractos sobre cientos de 
muertes concretas, de una vez por todas hacen algo útil para detener el 
terrorismo de estado, defender a la población civil y levantar el 
diálogo como único camino para la solución de conflictos. Imaginemos 
que eligen la justicia, la razón, la dignidad, el respeto. Que de una 
vez por todas eligen la gente, la humanidad, la vida.

STOP KILLING.
 
Let us imagine that we are having tea on a sunny day with our 
neighbors. Imagine the children are at school. Imagine we are about to 
take a taxi to go to a meeting in the city, or about to get into our 
horse wagon to harvest our crops. Imagine we are getting off work to go 
home.
 
And now, let us imagine that in a single second the sun goes dark and 
the neighbors are dying on our side. The school disappeared. Imagine 
that we can’t recognize the place we are supposed to have the meeting, 
or that everyone who was harvesting in the fields has been killed. Now, 
imagine there is no house to return to. Imagine that our country is 
Lebanon.
 
There will not be peace without people to construct her. There are no 
human rights if there is nobody to enjoy them. Is it possible to use 
the argument of wanting to obtain a sustainable ceasefire, to reject a 
CEASEFIRE? Peace can never be a excuse for war. You can’t kill with the 
argument to prevent death.
 
Any kind of fundamentalism, christian, jewish or islamic, be it 
religious, economic or political fundamentalism, do not recognize 
humanity’s diversity, and legitimize violent mechanisms that subject 
one group by another, one person by another. Essentially exclusive and 
belligerent, fundamentalisms undermine the project of Humanity in which 
every person has the right to have rights.
 
We, the women of Latin America, who, during the dictatorships, have 
experienced state terrorism, know about the pain and death of our 
peoples, as well as we know about the power of solidarity and people’s 
organization. We join in solidarity people’s organizations everywhere 
demanding an IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE in Lebanon and Palestine and the 
withdrawal of the Israeli troops.
 
Now, let us imagine a meeting of the United Nations. Imagine that 
instead of inconclusive and abstract communiqués about hundreds of 
concrete deaths, this time, state terrorism is detained, civil 
population defended and dialogue is insisted upon as the only way to 
solve conflict. Imagine justice, reason, dignity, respect are chosen. 
That, this time, the choice is people, humanity and life.
