Dear Ana,
I just received your e-mail and read the statement with dismay. It is about as weak, distanced and generalized as it could possibly be. A statement about this particular war is called for, not about war in general. If GCAP cannot say anything from the heart about the human lives being lost, the magnitude of the killing taking place, then it certainly loses its credibility as a network concerned with the human dimension of development. As comments coming from the FTF, the fact that the destruction is aimed at civilians, mainly women and children, has to be front and center. The Beirut Declaration with its add on sentence is totally inadequate in this regard. Where is the passion. Yes, we met in Beirut. It is a city being destroyed as we speak, in a country being devastated. The lives of our generous hosts and their families in imminent danger. Where is the outrage. Where is the solidarity.
Eva
