[Gcap-mujeres] FTF and 17 October/ ETF y el 17 de octubre

Dear friends, queridas amigas (español abajo),

Now that the mobilisation around G8 is over,  we should start our preparations for the October 17 Mobilisation which is the main one for the year and for which we have developed plans at the Nairobi meeting. The idea is to organise International Women´s Tribunal on Poverty on 17 October. Originally we have though of having one in New York, but the facilitation team has now decided to have 4: one in New York, one in Egypt, one in India and one in Peru. Rosa is responsible for the one in New York, Josephine for the one in Egypt, Pam for the one in India (in cooperation with Lysa) and Martha Rico for the one in Peru. The idea is to draw on previous similar experiences. We need the support from all of you to identify members from civil society in those countries and others persons internationally recognised to be part of the panel of judges. As you can imagine, these four tribunals will take a lot of energy to prepare but we believe it will give us great visibility and above all that the impact can be quite high if it is well organised. So we count on your support. Those responsible in each region will be sending further details but it is important that you start identifying possible candidates for the jury. And also, please send any suggestions or comments on previous experiences that you might know. We should ensure that this is a successful FTF activity and that we can mobilise national GCAP coalitions and the whole of the IFT!

ahora que culminó la movilización en torno al G8 debemos comenzar nuestra preparación con miras al 17 de octubre, fecha central de movilización de este año, y para la cual tenemos una propuesta concreta surgida de la reunión de planificación de Nairobi. La idea es organizar Tribunales de Mujeres sobre la Pobreza el 17 de octubre. Originalmente habíamos pensado en uno solo en Nueva York, pero luego el grupo facilitador decidió organizar 4: en Nueva York, bajo la responsabilidad de Rosa, en Egipto, bajo la responsabilidad de Josephine, en India, bajo la responsabilidad de Pam y con el apoyo de Lysa, y en Perú, bajo la responsabilidad de Martha Rico. La idea es construir esta experiencia a partir de otras similares que ya se han realizado en relación con otros temas, por ejemplo el de la deuda. Necesitamos el apoyo de todas ustedes para identificar integrantes de asociaciones de la sociedad civil en cada uno de esos países y también personas reconocidas internacionalmente para que integren el panel de jueces. Como se imaginan organizar estos cuatro tribunales demandará un gran esfuerzo pero creemos que nos dará mucha visibilidad y sobre todo que el impacto puede llegar a ser muy alto. Para ello contamos con vuestro apoyo. Las responsables en cada región van a ir mandando más información pero es importante que ustedes comiencen a identificar posibles candidat en s para el jurado. Y también sería muy bueno que enviaran sugerencias y comentarios de experiencias similares que conozcan o en las que hayan participado. Tenemos que asegurar que esta actividad salga bien y que podamos sumar a esta movilización a las coaliciones nacionales y a todo el EFI!
