[Gcap-mujeres] IFT meeting - reunión del EFI

Yesterday was the June meeting of the IFT. The agenda included achievements and lesson learnt around the G8 summit and GCAP´s presence, reports from regions and constituencies, and three issues for discussion and decision: one that had to do with a proposal to present to the Governance and Transparency Fund of DFID; the IFT Co-Chair; and the partnership with Body Shop. 
- About reports, it was decided to send them in written form, so I am attaching the one I prepared on what the FTF did around mobilisation for the G8. 
- About the proposal to the DFIF the issue was how to go about it without being a registered entity. A transitional formula was agreed upon until the Future Structure Task Group comes up with the proposal of how GCAP will continue to operate and a final decision is taken by all its constituency.
- About the Co-chairs, a process for electing one was agreed upon. As you know Kumi is the current chair and the idea is to have another one looking for gender and regional balance. There will be a process to propose candidates. We should put forward a name. I will send you the criteria and procedures once it is circulated among the IFT members. 
- Body Shop. It was decided to decline the offer to partner with Body Shop. We were one of the constituencies with a strong position precisely calling not to partner with them. As Nerea put it in one of the messages to the list, we stated that the way we do fund-raising and with whom we work says a lot of who we are and what we stand for. There were many other constituencies with similar position, also critical of L'Oreal (owner of Body shop) portrayal of women and testing on animals. It was agreed though that future partnerships with the private sector might be explored. Claire, representing the worker´s movement, sent a clear statement to be included in the resolution with respect to this saying: "GCAP engagement with the private sector must be consistent with workers' interests. Therefore GCAP should refrain from engaging with companies that have a negative attitude towards trade unions and refuse to engage in a collective bargaining relationship with their workers".

So, that´s a brief summary of the meeting. I will send you the criteria for the Co-Chair so we can make a proposal.

ayer fue la reunión de junio del EFI. La agenda incluía logros y lecciones aprendidas de la movilización de GCAP en torno al G8, informes de regiones y grupos, y tres temas sobre los que era necesario debatir y tomar posición: una propuesta a presentar al Fondo de Gobernanza y Transparencia del Departamento de Desarrollo Internacional del Gobierno de Gran Bretaña; "Co-chair" del EFI (el actual chair es Kumi y la idea es tener una segunda persona); y la asociación con Body Shop.
- Informes: se decidió enviarlos por escrito, así que les adjunto el que preparé sobre qué hicimos como ETF en torno al G8 (está en inglés, pero ya les había ido enviando la información en español a medida que iba llegando).
- Sobre la propuesta a presentar al Departamento de Desarrollo el asunto era la dificultad para hacerlo en tanto GCAP no es una entidad constituida. Se aprobó una fórmula transitoria hasta que el grupo que está trabajando en la futura estructura de GCAP termine de armar la propuesta, circule y se tome una resolución final sobre este tema. 
- Sobre los co-Chairs, se acordó un proceso para la selección. Como les decía más arriba, el actual es Kumi y la idea es que haya otra persona asegurando balance regional y de género. Habrá un proceso para proponer candidata/os y nosotras debemos proponer un nombre. Les voy a mandar los criterios y procedimientos una vez que circulen entre los integrantes del EFI.
- Body Shop: se aprobó declinar la oferta para asociarnos con Body Shop. Nosotras fuimos de los grupos con una posición fuerte contraria a la asociación. Como escribió Nerea en un mensaje, cómo buscamos fondos y con quién nos asociamos dice mucho sobre quiénes somos y para qué trabajamos. Hubo muchos otros que estaban en nuestra misma posición, además de cuestionar cómo L'Oreal, dueño de Body Shop, presenta a las mujeres y también de los tests en animales. Se aprobó de todas maneras explorar otras posibles asociaciones con el sector privado. Claire, que representa al movimiento de trabajadores, mandó una nota escrita para que se incluya en la resolución sobre este tema que dice: "el involucramiento de GCAP con el sector privado debe ser consistente con el interés de l en s trabajador en s. Por lo tanto GCAP debe abstenerse de asociarse con compañías que tengan una actitud negativa hacia los sindicatos y y rechazan participar de negociaciones colectivas con sus trabajadores".

Bueno, hasta aquí una síntesis de lo ocurrido en la reunión. Les mandaré entonces los criterios para C-chair para que podamos hacer nuestra propuesta.
