Dear GCAP Members and partners
We are happy to present the final version of the GCAP mobilization plan
2008. This will be our fourth year of mobilisation and we hope that the
plan we are sharing with you all will have a real impact in contributing
to putting an end to poverty and inequality and building a society in
which all women and men, children and youth can enjoy their full human
rights. We hope that our advocacy work will resonate widely and
sensitise those in positions to make a real difference.
The 2008 GCAP mobilisation plan is the outcome of a three-month
extensive consultation within our constituency, including task groups
(mainly the Mobilization Taskforce), regions, country coalitions, task
forces, strategic campaign partners, the IFT and other global and
regional actors. Experiences and lessons from the last three years have
been the major source of inspiration besides comments and suggestions
from our constituents and members.
We are building on the achievements of past 3 years that have helped
make GCAP a widely recognised global anti-poverty campaign. Not only
have we grown in terms of our presence in countries around the world,
but have also added new supporters and partners that have contributed to
our success and will continue to do so in future.
This year GCAP will strengthen its global campaigning and advocacy by
supporting members and partners in bringing our message to a series of
mobilisation actions. We will be building momentum over a 50-day period
linked to some key existing global events and we will conclude this
period with a powerful three-day peak moment of mobilisation around
October 17th. Some other key dates have also been identified like the
[WINDOWS-1252?]International Women’s Day on 8 March and the International
Human Rights
Day on 10 December.
We aim to promote global, regional and national advocacy actions, adding
value to the campaigns of our partners. We are hopeful that your
organisations will engage actively in several of these actions making
this year mobilisation broadly visible and with higher level of results
than ever before.
We would appreciate it if you disseminate this plan and the mobilisation
plan in your countries and among your constituency groups encouraging
their participation.
Like it happened in previous years we hope that you will be able to
mobilize a large number of people around the GCAP key demands to
eradicate poverty, dramatically lessen inequality, reach gender justice
and achieve and exceed the Millennium Development Goals, and in so doing
impact upon global policies and decisions in favour of the construction
of a just and sustainable society.
Thanking you for your constant support,
Ana Agostino, Kumi Naidoo, Sylvia Borren - Co-Chairs GCAP IFT
