Dear colleagues,

On yesterday's IFT call (I replaced Ana on the call) we discussed the food
crisis effort and actions GCAP can take around the June 1st mobilizations. One
of the efforts mentioned in the Mobilization Task Force call on Tuesday (and
mentioned in the women's list serves) was to collect stories from the
grassroots, in particular from women and girls, on how the food crisis is affecting
them. This was something reiterated on yesterday's IFT call and supported
by colleagues on the call. This is one are which we can really highlight the
added burden on women and girls. We ask that you please send stories about
how the food crisis is disproportionately affecting women and girls to Sarah
(_sarah.gregory en civicus.org_ (mailto:sarah.gregory en civicus.org) ) with the
GCAP support team with a copy to me and/or Ana. We are requesting testimony in
the form of short entries---a paragraph, two paragraphs of women and girls'
voices---a photograph and/or video. Also, if you know of someone who can be
a spokesperson for those days, please send their name and contact info.
This could be you if you are planning activities on any of the days listed below.

An outline of dates and other pertinent info on the food crisis:
-- May 23 -25 Agricultural Missions, a faith based group is calling for a
three day fast-see _www.agriculturalmissions.org_
(http://www.agriculturalmissions.org/) (click on 3-day fast)
--June 1 Global day of action on or around June 1, to demand that
governments Act Now to End Poverty and Inequality and Stop the Food Crisis. Action
needed now - Collect testimonies, one or two paragraphs from someone telling of
how the food crisis has directly impacted on their lives, preferably with a
photo or if possible a video (send to _sara.gregory en civicus.org_
(mailto:sara.gregory en civicus.org) , with copy to _rosaencasa en aol.com_
(mailto:rosaencasa en aol.com) & _ana en icae.uy.org_ (mailto:ana en icae.uy.org) ). Deadline - No later
than Wednesday, May 21st.
--June 3 - 5 The FAO will host a High Level Conference on World Food
Security- the challenges of climate change and bioenergy in Rome. GCAP will have
presence there.

Also, shortly we will be sending a communique to announce the recent updates
within the FTF, i.e. coordinator/alternate, new task force members (Climate
Change and MTF). Moreover, we'd like to welcome Luisa Cruz Hefti back to the
FTF-Facilitation Team, this time as the rep from Europe. Originally from
Peru, Luisa has agreed to be our interim European representative since she has
been based in Switzerland for the past 8 months and can interface with
women's NGOs and GCAP Europe in the region. We have faced a lack of representation
in Europe most recently, a region which is very active and well-organized.
Luisa will be able to fill that void since she has already been on the FTF-FT
and an active member of GCAP for many years. We welcome Luisa back to the
group.

Warm regards,

Rosa
