queridas amigas (espanhol abajo),

preparations are under way for the HLE that will take place at the UN on the 
25th of this month. There are also many side events being organised by civil 
society organisations, one of them being the poverty hearings and the 
women's tribunal that we are organising as GCAP and as FTF. Arriving in the 
city the first impression is one of excessive security, with a restricted 
area which goes well beyond the compound of the UN. It is quite noisy as 
there are ambulances, and police cars, and fire brigades and an incredible 
number of police men and women. Those of us with letters and some form of 
accreditation were able to take part in events near the UN and get ready for 
our activities. So today we managed to be at Rosa's office at the Church 
Centre to finalise the preparations for the women's tribunals. But only a 
handful of selected NGO representatives will actually be able to attend the 
sessions of the UN event. We hope though that the recommendations of the 
hearings and of the tribunals will reach the Secretary General and member 
states. Women's organisations have also managed to secure some bilateral 
meetings with ministers and other officials from various countries to 
present our case on food security and women, on financing for gender 
equality. We will report on the meetings we attend as FTF as they take 
place. We will also report on the tribunals and hearings tomorrow, where the 
focus will be on education, environment, and in the case of the women's 
tribunals, this time they will fs on poverty in New York. 
An event we attended today at the Church centre was an International 
Interfaith Manifestation, with music, testimonies and calls for action upon 
governments to fulfill their primise of contributing 0,7% of their GDP 
towards development aid. Throughout the week there will be numerous views on 
this, on the MDGs and on what is needed to reach them and surpass them. Feel

Queridas amigas,
Estan en marcha los preparativos para el evento de alto nivel que tendra 
lugar en la ONU el 25 de setiembre y tambien se estan organizando varias 
actividades paralelas por parte de la sociedad civil. Entre estas estan las 
audiencias contra la pobreza y los tribunales de mujeres que estamos 
preparando como GCAP y ETF. 
Llegando a la ciudad una tiene la impresion de que la seguridad es excesiva, 
con una zona de restricci’on mucho mas amplia que la que ocupa la ONU. Hay 
todo tipo de sirenas, por autos de la polic’ia, ambulancias, bomberos, y un 
numero increible de policas tanto hombres como mujeres apostados en las 
esquinas en grupos numerosos y a lo largo de cantidad de calles. Los que 
tenemos alguna forma de acreditacion podemos circular y llegar a los lugares 
de reunion o preparacion de actividades, asi pudimos hoy trabajar en la 
oficina de Rosa finalizando los detalles para el tribunal de manhana. Pero 
un numero muy reducido de ONGs estara autorizado a entrar al edificio de 
Naciones Unidas y participar de las sesiones. Confiamos que las 
recomendaciones que surjan de los tribunales (asi como el documento que 
hemos preparado sobre la crisis alimentaria y que esta siendo firmado por 
varias organizaciones) lleguen al secretario general y a los estados 
miembros. Organizaciones de mujeres tambien han logrado entrevistas con 
varias delegaciones oficiales para plantearles estos temas y en particular 
el del financiamiento para la igualdad de genero. Les iremos informando de 
las reuniones en las que participaremos. Tambien les contaremos como se 
desarrollan las audiencias, que se centraran en educacion, medio ambiente, y 
el tribunal que esta vez se enfocaran en la pobreza femenina en Nueva York. 
Una actividad de la que participamos hoy fue una manifestacion internacional 
interreligosa en el Church Centre, en la que hubo musica, testimonios, y un 
llamado a la accion convocando a los gobiernos a cumplir su compromiso de 
destinar 0,7% de su PBI a la ayuda al desarrollo. A lo largo de la semana se 
escucharan muchas visiones sobre esto, sobre los ODM, sobre como alcanzarlos 
y como superarlos. Las invitamos a que escriban sus opiniones a esta lista y 
nosotras les iremos contando lo que ocurre a lo largo de estos dias.
