*Letter from the Global Secretariat*
Last Sunday 8th March, the Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP)
mobilized on International Women's Day 2009.
From International Women's Day, GCAP and others will campaign for 20
days to show the links between the feminization of poverty and the
global economic crises, but also to show that women can play a central
role in building sustainable economies.
This is part of a series of worldwide responses ahead of the G20 and
culminating in the Global Week of Action called for by the World Social
Forum. The week of action will start with rallies in London, Berlin,
Frankfurt, Madrid and elsewhere on March 28th.
GCAP is calling on all leaders attending the G20 Summit in London to
take back control of the international financial system and use this
crisis to undertake a root and branch reform that puts their voters, the
people, first. But we are also calling for power to be shifted to the
G192 -- the United Nations, who should become central to the role of
regulation of the financial systems.
Join the mobilisation in the coming weeks to call governments to take
responsibility, take action and put people first.

_*G20 MOBILISATION TOOLKIT AND POLICY PAPER*_
Last week, the G20 Working group finalised and approved a Mobilisation
Toolkit

for the G20 Summit on the financial crisis in London. As we know, this
meeting is a follow-up to the G20 November 2008 meeting in Washington DC
and their discussions will revolve around the current economic crisis
and what to do about it. This makes it a rare opportunity in which, with
effective civil society action and coordination internationally, we can
move forward to achieve some real wins on GCAP demands.
On these documents you will find detailed information on GCAP's
objectives for the campaign, messaging, suggested activities, materials
and information sources, etc. A template *press release*

_*20 DAYS TO 20 -- WOMEN CALL FOR VOICE AT G20*_
"Women are in a hugely vulnerable position in the current global
economic crisis. Our leaders need to introduce specific strategies to
provide both urgent assistance to cope with increased poverty and a
space for the women's voices to be heard," according to Sylvia Borren,
Co Chair of the Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP).
GCAPs International Women's Day Mobilization started last week with
activities at the global level. As stated in our last e-letter, the
emphasis of this mobilization will be to highlight the linkages between
women, poverty and the global crises (food, fuel and financial).
*Please send reports on your International Women's Day activities to
