I wanted 
to share with you some more information on the events in New York, 
particularly in relation to the GCAP Global Assembly. As you know, this event 
takes place every three years, the last one having taken place here in 
Montevideo in May 2007. All national coalitions and constituency groups are 
represented there and the main aims of the assembly are to strategize for 
the years ahead and reinvigorate the movement. I am attaching the objectives and 
agenda of the assembly for your information. 

On the 
side of the FTF the participants will be those women who have been active in the 
facilitation team during this last period. They are the 
following:

Latin America: Martha Rico (Peru), Marcela Ballara (Chile) and 
Marta Benavidez (El Salvador) 
Africa: Mpho Laing (Botswana), 
Caroline Usikpedo Omoniye (Nigeria), 

Arab Region: Josephine Kamel (Egypt) (she 
also covers Uganda and Kenya)
Asia: Sharmila Karki (Nepal) and Rehana 
Khilji (Pakistan)
Europe: Luisa Cruz Hefti 
(Switzerland) 
North America: Rosa Lizarde (Alternate, US) and Diana Salas (United 
States) 
Facilitator: Ana Agostino 
(Uruguay)

One of the tasks of the Assembly will be to elect the new Global 
Council of GCAP (which is formed by representatives from the regions and the 
constituency groups). 
I have been the Global Council member on behalf of the FTF as I have 
facilitated the team since 2006. Rosa has been my alternate. After two periods 
we need to elect a new representative for the Global Council. After an initial 
consultation with the members of the facilitation team, they have 
suggested that Rosa becomes the FTF representative at the Global Council. We 
need to take the final decision at the Assembly, in a space provided to all 
constituencies before the Assembly itself starts. The person elected and her 
alternate do not necessarily need to be present at the assembly. 

I would like to invite all of you to nominate active members of the FTF who 
you would like to take over the role of representing us at the GCAP Global 
Council. You can of course also indicate if you support the suggestion of the 
Facilitation team and, if so, also indicate who you would like to accompany 
Rosa as alternate. Or you can also send two names, indicating the representative 
you are suggesting and her alternate. The main representative and alternate will 
work closely together, as Rosa and I have done it over these years, in close 
collaboration with the facilitation team. The mandate for the new global 
council will again be for three years. 
We ask you to send these suggestions not later than September 10th.

Quería compartir con ustedes más información en relación con las 
actividades de setiembre en Nueva York, en particular sobre la Asamblea Global 
de GCAP. Como saben, esta actividad se realiza cada tres años. La última tuvo 
lugar aquí en Montevideo en mayo de 2007. Cuentan con representación en esta 
actividad todas las coaliciones nacionales y grupos/equipos de GCAP. Los 
principales objetivos son definir una estrategia para los próximos años y 
revitalizar el movimiento. Les adjunto los objetivos y la agenda de la asamblea 
para vuestro conocimiento (por ahora sólo en inglés pero el documento ya 
está siendo traducido).

En cuanto al Equipo de Trabajo Feminista (ETF) las participantes en la 
asamblea serán las compañeras que han estado activas en el equipo de 
facilitación en el último período:

Una de las tareas de la asamblea será elegir el nuevo Consejo Global de 
GCAP (integrado por representantes de las regiones y los grupos/equipos de 
trabajo). 
Yo he sido la integrante del Consejo Global en representación del ETF en 
tanto vengo facilitando el equipo desde el año 2006. Rosa ha sido mi suplente. 
Luego de dos períodos tenemos que elegir a una nueva representante para el 
Consejo Global. En consultas primarias con las integrantes del equipo 
facilitador, ellas sugieren que Rosa asuma la representación en el Consejo 
Global. La decisión final debemos tomarla en la asamblea, y habrá un tiempo 
reservado para las regiones y los equipos antes de que ésta empiece para que 
elijan sus representantes. Las personas a elegir no tienen por qué estar 
presentes en la asamblea. 

Me gustaría invitarlas a todas a que nominen a compañeras del ETF para que 
asuman el rol de representarnos en el Consejo Global de GCAP. Por supuesto que 
pueden apoyar la sguerencia del equipo facilitador respecto a la candidatura de 
Rosa y en ese caso indicar quién les gustaría que la acompañara como suplente. O 
también pueden proponer a dos compañeras, indicando a cuál sugieren como titular 
y a cuál como suplente. Las dos trabajan de manera muy articulada, como lo hemos 
hecho Rosa y yo a lo largo de estos años y en estrecha colaboración con el 
equipo facilitador. El mandato del nuevo Consejo Global será nuevamente por tres 
años. 
Les agradecemos que envíen las nominaciones no más allá del 10 de 
setiembre. Gracias!!!

Bueno, es todo por ahora, pero les iré enviando más información sobre la 
asamblea y otras actividades en torno a la cumbre de los ODM a medida que se 
acerque la fecha.
