Dear Lorena, dear all,
I forwarded your email to GenderCC (assuming it was them you asked for
cooperation in a side event), and we had a long discussion about what
the aim is to demonstrate in a public event our very different positions.
What's the audience going to do with the information?
As you know, Gender CC is strongly rejecting REDD, and most of us don't see
any value in having good safeguards in order to achieve gender
sensitive policies in a completly wrong and very often harming mechanism. We
had many discussions about the issue in Cancun in the Women's
Caucus, most of the women's organisations represented were rejecting REDD. A
working group, composed by those representing the different
positions, drafted a position paper <
http://www.gendercc.net/fileadmin/inhalte/Dokumente/UNFCCC_conferences/COP16/women_redd.pdf>,
which was
signed by about 150 organisations and individuals until today. Would be
really good to continue these internal discussions we started in
Cancun, and to invite others interested in an open debate. Thus, we suggest
to provide the space for further discussion on REDD in Cancun,
but don't do it in a public event.
I cc this email to the Gender and Women Constituency list and the women's
causus list, in order to discuss it in a transparent way.
Thanks for taking the initiative,
All the best
Ulrike
