Pueblos") que se iban a realizar el 30 de mayo en Nueva York en el marco de la
reunión de Naciones Unidas sobre la crisis y que fue postergada para más
adelante en junio. Las audiencias se realizarán el 20 de junio como informa Rosa
en el mensaje que sigue.</FONT></DIV>

<P class=MsoNormal>Les hago llegar una rápida puesta a punto. El evento Voces de
los Pueblos ha sido confirmado para el sábado 20 de junio, en horario a
confirmar. La agenda permanecerá prácticamente sin cambios. La búsqueda de
ponentes centrales se va a ampliar para incluir quizás a Stiglitz, Evo Morales..
y confirmar a Mary Robinson. Habrá más información a medida que las cosas se
vayan afirmando. El lugar del evento sigue siendo el mismo, quizás se buscará
sin embargo algún lugar más cercano a la ONU. La elección del día sábado
presenta algunas dificultades financieras, pero tendríamos que ver cómo sufragar
algunos costos. </P>
<P class=MsoNormal>Anoche, en una conversación que tuve con la Capellana de la
UN Church Center, Kathleen Stone, para discutir el cambio de fecha del evento
"The Great Turning" (el gran cambio de dirección) <SPAN> </SPAN>(sobre
Crisis Moral), mencioné que quizás podríamos llevarlo a cabo el 14 de junio y
poner en marcha una cuenta regresiva de 10 días hast los
compromisos.

ONU. Realmente le gustó la idea; hoy lo mencioné en la llamada de Voces de los
Pueblos y hubo interés en el tema. Básicamente, es lo que hicimos (como FTF)
para el G20 - 20 días hacia el G20– como acción global. El mismo concepto se
aplicaría aquí, para asegurarnos de mantener a los gobiernos en alerta en los
días finales previos a la Conferencia. Por lo tanto, quiero mencionarlo aquí.
Actualmente nos estamos sumando a los siguientes esfuerzos: The Great Turning"
(el gran cambio de dirección) (como co-promotoras), Voces de los Pueblos
(el FTF co-promueve, junto con el Grupo de Trabajo de Mujeres sobre Financiación
para el Desarrollo- WWG). Diana Aguiar propuso que tal vez el WWG pueda
organizar un evento durante estos 10 días. Pienso que la idea de los 10 días es
sumamente necesaria para trabajar sobre los medios de comunicación (por ejemplo,
recientemente salió un artículo en el New York Times con una visión poco
favorable, o por lo menos desenfocada, de la Conferencia), para hacer trabajo de
incidencia, para ir ganando impulso hacia la Conferencia.</P>

<DIV>Quick update - The Peoples' Voices event has been confirmed for Saturday,
June 20th, time to be confirmed. The agenda will remain basically the
same, with the current presenters to be confirmed. The keynote
speakers search will be expanded to include perhaps Stiglitz, Evo
Morales,...and confirm Mary Robinson. More information to be
confirmed as things firm up. The venue might remain the same, however
another location closer to the UN will be looked into. The choice of
Saturday presents <BR>some financial difficulties, but we would have to
look into defraying some costs. <BR></DIV>
<DIV>In a conversation last night with the Chaplain of the UN Church Center,
Kathleen Stone, to discuss the change of date of "The Great Turning" event (on
the Moral Crisis), I mentioned that perhaps we could have it on the 14
June, and kick-off a 10 Day Countdown to Commitments - 10 Days of Action leading
up to the UN Conference. She really liked the idea and I
mentioned it on today's Peoples Voices call, and there was interest. It is
basically what we (FTF) did for the G20 - "20 Days to G20" global action. The
same concept would apply to ensure we keep governments on alert in the final
days before the Conference. So, I want to mention it
here. Currently, we are joining the following
efforts: The Great Turning (co-sponsors), Peoples Voices (FTF co-sponsor
as well as with the WWG). Diana Aguiar proposed that perhaps
the WWG could also have an event during these 10 days. I think the idea of
the 10 Days is greatly needed, to work on media (e.g. the recent NYTimes article
with an unfavorable, or in the least, unbalanced reporting of the Conf.), to
work on advocacy, to work build momentum towards the Conference.</DIV>
