nominaciones<BR>FECHA LÃMITE DE ENVIO DE PROPUESTAS: 16 DE ABRIL DE 2010<BR>La
Red Genero y Desastres y el Centro de Amenazas Naturales les invita a <BR>enviar
nominaciones de aquellas personas que deban ser reconocidas por sus
<BR>esfuerzos en el avance de políticas, prácticas e investigacion
sensibles a la <BR>igualdad de género en las áreas de la reducción de los
riesgos de <BR>desastres. <BR><BR>El Premio Mary Fran Myers, establecido en
2002, reconoce que la vulnerabilidad<BR>ante los desastres y las emergencias
colectivas están influenciadas por las<BR>estructuras sociales, culturales y
económicas que marginan a las mujeres y<BR>niñas, y que también exponen a
daños a niños y hombres.<BR><BR>El premio fue nombrado así para reconocer
los esfuerzos que la Dra. Mary Fran<BR>Myers realizó como Co-Directora del
Centro de Amenazas Naturales, para crear <BR>una red mundial de promoción de
oportunidades para las mujeres en las <BR>profesiones relacionadas con los
desastres y para apoyar la investigación en <BR>asuntos vinculados con la
igualdad de género, desastres, manejo de <BR>emergencias y la educación
superior.<BR><BR>La intención del Premio Mary Fran Myers Genero y Desastres es
reconocer a las <BR>mujeres y los hombres cuya defensa, investigación y/o
esfuerzos para promover <BR>la gestión de riesgos de desastres han tenido un
impacto duradero y positivo <BR>en la reducción de la vulnerabilidad de hombres
y mujeres ante los desastres. <BR>Son elegibles todas y todos aquellos cuyo
trabajo ha influido en el campo de <BR>conocimiento que vincula la perspectiva
de igualdad de género con la gestión <BR>de los riesgos y desastres, que hayan
sido importantes para la práctica y la <BR>teoría de género, o bien hayan
impulsado oportunidades para las mujeres en <BR>este campo del
conocimiento.<BR><BR>El Comité de Selección de este premio esta especialmente
interesado en <BR>recibir nominaciones de fuera de los Estados Unidos de
América (USA). <BR><BR>También se invita a re-nominar a candidatas/os de años
anteriores que aún <BR>no han sido beneficiadas/<WBR>os con el premio, en
reconocimiento a su trabajo de <BR>excelencia.<BR><BR>El premio no aporta fondos
para viajes o alguna otra compensación material, <BR>sin embargo, la persona
receptora del premio será reconocida virtualmente en<BR>el mes de julio 2010 en
el marco del Taller Anual de Amenazas Naturales de la <BR>Universidad de
Colorado, además de darse a conocer en el Cartel Anual de la <BR>Red de Género
y Desastres 2010. <BR><BR>La persona seleccionada será invitada a participar
como miembro de la <BR>Comisión de Selección del Premio Mary Fran Myers
Género y Desastres para el <BR>siguiente año 2011 y se le incitará a servir
como Presidente de la<BR>Comisión de Selección para un segundo año, en el
2012.<BR><BR>Tres son los pasos para hacer una nominación:<BR>* Enviar el

del o la nominada, y un resumen <BR>de una cuartilla.<BR>* Escribir una carta de
nominación donde se detalle específicamente <BR>cómo el trabajo del o la
candidata se ajusta a los criterios de adjudicación <BR>del premio, de acuerdo

SOUGHT <BR><BR>Deadline: April 16, 2010<BR><BR>The Gender and Disaster Network
and the Natural<BR>Hazards Center invite nominations of those who should be
recognized for their<BR>efforts to advance gender-sensitive policy, practice, or
research in the areas<BR>of disaster risk reduction. Established in 2002, the
Mary Fran Myers Award<BR>recognizes that vulnerability to disasters and mass
emergencies is influenced<BR>by social, cultural, and economic structures that
marginalize women and girls,<BR>and may also expose boys and men to
harm.<BR><BR>The award was so named to recognize Myers’<BR>sustained efforts
as Co-Director of the Natural Hazards Center to launch a<BR>worldwide network
promoting women’s opportunities in disaster-related<BR>professions and
supporting research on gender issues, disasters, emergency<BR>management, and
higher education.<BR><BR>The intent of the Mary Fran Myers Gender
and<BR>Disaster Award is to recognize women and men whose advocacy, research,
or<BR>management efforts have had a lasting, positive impact on reducing
disaster<BR>vulnerability. All those whose work has added to the body of
knowledge on<BR>gender and disasters, is significant for gender-theory or
practice, or has<BR>furthered opportunities for women to succeed in the field
are eligible.<BR><BR>The Selection Committee is especially interested in
soliciting<BR>nominations from outside the United States. We<BR>also invite
re-nominations in recognition of the excellence of past<BR>nominees who have not
yet been recognized. <BR>The award carries no travel funds or other material
compensation but recipients<BR>are honored “virtually†at the<BR>annual July
Natural Hazards Workshop of the University of Colorado, and<BR>featured in the
annual GDN poster. Please note that the individual selected<BR>will be invited
to serve on the Mary Fran Myers Gender & Disaster Award<BR>Selection
Committee for one year and then encouraged to serve as Chair the<BR>second year.
