as we mentioned in previous messages there will be a series of
activities taking place in New York this month around the MDG Summit. I want to
share with you updated information on what is happening and who from the FTF
will be attending.

- The MDG Summit, officially called the United Nations
High-level Plenary Meeting on the Millennium Development Goals, will take place
from 20 to 22 September.

The summit will focus on
accelerating progress towards the achievement of all the MDGs by 2015. It will
finalise with the adoption of an action-oriented outcome document to be agreed
by Member States. The Summit will have six plenary meeting and six
interactive roundtables. The round tables
are:

Round table 1 —
Addressing the challenge of poverty, hunger and gender equality
o Round table 2 — Meeting the goals of health and
education
o Round table 3 — Promoting
sustainable development
o Round table 4 —
Addressing emerging issues and evolving approaches
o Round table 5 — Addressing the special needs of the
most vulnerable
o Round table 6 — Widening
and strengthening partnerships

Several of GCAP members and other colleagues from partner
organisations will be at the round tables as civil society (4 civil society
members in each table). I will be on the Round table 2 on Meeting the Goals of
health and education.

This will be the only space where civil society will be
directly involved at the summit. There are several events around the summit,
previously and during those days.

- 19 September: Stand Up and Take Action - a series of
activities at the Lincoln Center

- 20 September: full day event called "Addressing Crises at a
Crossroads: A Day of Dialogue on Women and the MDGs". This day is being
organised by the FTF in coordination with other organisations. The event will
take place at the Salvation Army Auditorium from 9:15 till 16:15. Although
the agenda is not finalised, the general outline will be:

- Two years post financial crisis: how are
women faring (local and global overviews on women impacted by crises), with
participation from women from several regions.

- Maternal mortality, women's health

- Women and Climate Change

- Women and governance - GEAR
presentation

We will be sending the full programme soon.

- 22 September: Civil Society Event on: "The World we want
2015. Outlining Future Strategies on the MDG Agenda". This event is being
organised by GCAP in coordination with other civil society organisations. This
event will have three parts:

an opening session to frame the discussion; 2) division into
thematic working groups that will make inputs into The World we Want declaration
and 3) a press conference where civil society views on what the MDG + 10 review
has achieved and outline key strategic areas for the way forward. The thematic
groups, each one led by a specific organisation, will look at: Gender
Equality; Social Exclusion; Accountability, Monitoring and Public
Participation; MDG 8/FfD; Climate Justice and Food Security; Quality Accessible
Public Services; Jobs and Social Security; Human Rights Mechanisms.

- From the evening of the 22 to the 24 will be the GCAP Global
Assembly. Constituency groups will meet ahead of the assembly to decide on
various issues. The FTF will have its meeting on the morning of the 21st. These
activities will take place in Newark.

I have already shared with you information on the assembly,
but just to remind you that the main objectives are (i) to agree on strategic
lines for the period 2012-2014; (ii) to reenergize the movement; (iii) to enable
a collective civil society response to the outcomes of the MDG summit and
mobilise around The World we Want; (iv) to have elections. For the strategic
discussion, several of us were asked to prepare strategic inputs around specific
topics. As FTF we prepared in a collective way a contribution on Women´s rights
and gender justice as key for poverty eradication. I attach the document that as
I say, was prepared with inputs from all the facilitation team members.
