situación política. Esta conmemoración tiene su origen en un episodio trágico de

avanzamos en el conocimiento de la verdad tantas veces negada, es necesario
analizar que papel jugó en la historia reciente del Uruguay cada sector de la
sociedad. Podemos decir con orgullo que la clase trabajadora dio la vida de sus
mejores hombres y mujeres enfrentando a la dictadura y el terrorismo de
estado.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><FONT
face="Times New Roman"><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Cuando dirigentes de Cámaras
Empresariales corrían presurosos el</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt"> 27</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"> de
junio de</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt"> <st1:metricconverter
w:st="on" ProductID="1973 a">1973 <SPAN
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">a</SPAN></st1:metricconverter><SPAN
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"> saludar y apoyar a los golpistas, mientras algunos
dirigentes blancos y colorados se disponían a participar del Consejo de Estado
dictatorial, los trabajadores declaraban <st1:PersonName w:st="on"
ProductID="la Huelga General">la Huelga General</st1:PersonName> y ocupaban los
lugares de trabajo resistiendo a la dictadura, luchando por una verdadera
democracia.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></SPAN></FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman"><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Fueron miles y miles los
héroes anónimos que participaron de esa gesta, los que fueron despedidos por la
alianza de la dictadura y las patronales, los que fueron encarcelados,
torturados, los expulsados al exilio. Sufrimos asesinatos y desapariciones y el
conjunto de la sociedad fue víctima del terrorismo de
estado.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>

Vega, Ary Cabrera, Hugo Méndez, Elena Quinteros, Fernando Miranda, Ataliva
Castillo, José Luis Urtasun, Gelos Bonilla y a todos los hombres y mujeres que
dieron su vida por nuestro pueblo.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>

y Fernando Miranda expresan la inequívoca voluntad de los uruguayos de terminar
con la impunidad.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>

style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman"><SPAN

junio comenzaremos a recorrer el país conjuntamente con organizaciones de
Derechos Humanos para impulsar la anulación de <st1:PersonName w:st="on"
ProductID="la Ley">la Ley</st1:PersonName> de
Impunidad.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman"><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>En las últimas semanas tras
la decisión de la justicia de extraditar a tres militares uruguayos, para ser
juzgados por la justicia chilena, asistimos a declaraciones amenazantes contra
la desición judicial por parte de ex jerarcas militares nucleados en centros de
retirados, los mismos que acostumbran a realizar permanente apología del
terrorismo de estado.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman"><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Expresamos nuestra
solidaridad con el Juez Mirabal, repudiamos el atentado criminal del que fue
objeto, reafirmamos que el pueblo uruguayo no está dispuesto a tolerar la acción
criminal de delincuentes amparados en la impunidad, que le otorgaron los
gobiernos que sucedieron a la dictadura.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman"><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Sin duda que la convocatoria
a los Consejos de Salario y el avance en materia de Negociación Colectiva es un
logro democrático sustancial, pero el desastre provocado por décadas de
neoliberalismo no solo deterioraron las condiciones de vida de los trabajadores,
sino que produjeron la marginación y la exclusión de grandes sectores de la
población.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><FONT
face="Times New Roman"><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Cientos de miles de
uruguayos viven en asentamientos, el</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt"> 60%</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"> de
los niños nacen por debajo de la línea de pobreza</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt">, 60.000</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">
jóvenes no trabajan ni estudian y sobreviven sin vislumbrar un futuro
cierto.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman">Desocupación y trabajo
precario constituyen los resultados de años de políticas antipopulares cuyos
responsables tienen nombre y apellido.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman"><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Los tiempos políticos de los
cambios deben compatilizarse con los tiempos y las necesidades de la gente.
Antes que la deuda externa, para la cual exigimos una auditoria ciudadana, debe
atenderse, la deuda con la gente.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><FONT
face="Times New Roman"><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>No compartimos el pago
adelantado de la deuda externa, ni la forma en que nuestro país viene negociando
con el</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt"> FMI </SPAN><SPAN
lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">y los organismos financieros multilaterales.
El superávit fiscal exigido para pagarle al fondo es un excedente producido por
el trabajo de los uruguayos. Estos fondos o al menos una parte considerable,
deberían ser destinados al desarrollo productivo, al aumento de la capacidad de
inversión pública, a la salud, a la vivienda a la educación, salarios y
jubilaciones, es decir a honrar la deuda social y productiva que está contraída
con nuestro pueblo.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman"><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Hace poco tiempo atrás el
Parlamento aprobó una Ley de protección a la actividad sindical, lo cual en un
país en el que durante años para patronales y gobiernos de turno el mejor
sindicato era el que no existía, sin duda constituye un hecho de carácter
histórico, un acto de estricta justicia y una importante contribución
democrática.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman"><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Innumerables sin embargo han
sido en todo el periodo las violaciones de laudos y acuerdos por parte de las
patronales.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman"><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Tampoco faltaron los
despidos, la represión antisndical de Cámaras Empresariales con absoluta falta
de cultura democrática.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman"><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Con una gran ofensiva
propagandística quisieron hacer aparecer las ocupaciones de lugares de trabajo
como el gran demonio, pretendiendo ocultar que los conflictos siguen siendo
provocados por la intransigencia patronal, para mantener la sobre explotación
aumentar su tasa de ganancia y profundizar la flexibilidad y la desregulación
laboral.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><FONT
face="Times New Roman"><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Los compañeros
de</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt"> D<SPAN
style="TEXT-TRANSFORM: uppercase">ancotex</SPAN> </SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">luchan hoy para que la patronal no agregue
otros</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt"> 320 </SPAN><SPAN
lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">trabajadores a la lista de
desocupados.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><FONT
face="Times New Roman"><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Reivindicamos que los
trabajadores gráficos nucleados en</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt"> COPROGRAF </SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">puedan recuperar la unidad productiva, los puestos de
trabajo, y una importante industria para el país y reclamamos las medidas
gubernamentales que lo hagan posible.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman"><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Nos solidarizamos con la
lucha de los trabajadores de Bella Unión por tierra para el que la
trabaja.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman"><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Las patronales pesqueras
violan el Decreto del Consejo de Salario y en un claro lock out paralizan la
flota pesquera.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman"><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Los trabajadores bancarios
luchan por el mantenimiento y recuperación de puestos de trabajo en el sector
financiero.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman"><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Sostenemos que la ocupación
es una modalidad del derecho de huelga, y por tanto rechazamos cualquier intento
de reglamentación mediante decreto o cualquier otra
forma.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman"><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Nos preparamos para una
nueva ronda de Consejos de Salario.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>

de los trabajadores discutiendo y fortaleciendo las organizaciones sindicales
será garantía de nuevos avances y mejora de la calidad de

el crecimiento de la economía debe ir acompañado de una distribución más justa
de la riqueza, para que ese crecimiento no se concentre en unos pocos sino que
contribuya al desarrollo de la sociedad y fundamentalmente a los que menos
tienen, creando trabajo y salario dignos. Porque un tipo de crecimiento
vulnerable y excluyente no alcanza para resolver los grandes dramas de nuestro
pueblo, de lo que se trata es de impulsar con la más amplia participación
popular una estrategia de desarrollo productivo, social y
democrático.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman"><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>A tales efectos
proponemos:<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>

style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>- el desarrollo de una política de
tierras, financiación, asistencia técnica que permita repoblar nuestra campaña
generando el acceso viable a la tierra por parte de los productores pobres y los
asalariados rurales;<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman"><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>- que se implemente el sistema de compras
públicas para que la capacidad de compra del estado se vincule a la creación de
empresas y puestos de trabajo en nuestro país;<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><FONT
face="Times New Roman"><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>- que se instrumenten ámbitos de
negociación tripartitos en el</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt">
MIEM </SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">para definir política
industrial en las diferentes ramas y cadenas productivas generando un plan
concreto de creación de puestos de trabajo de
calidad;<o:p></o:p></SPAN></FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman"><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>- que se apruebe una ley de estimulo a la
recuperación de unidades productivas por parte de los trabajadores, declarando a
las empresas cerradas y a la capacidad ociosa de <st1:PersonName w:st="on"
ProductID="la República">la República</st1:PersonName> como de utilidad social.
Anunciamos el desarrollo junto a <st1:PersonName w:st="on"
ProductID="la Universidad">la Universidad</st1:PersonName> de <st1:PersonName
w:st="on" ProductID="la República">la República</st1:PersonName> y
<st1:PersonName w:st="on" ProductID="la Universidad">la
Universidad</st1:PersonName> del Trabajo del Uruguay, del Proyecto del Mapa del
Uruguay Productivo pensado para elaborar dicha estrategia con la más amplia y
democrática participación popular.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><FONT
face="Times New Roman"><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Reclamamos el aumento
inmediato del Salario Mínimo Nacional a</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt"> $ 3000.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><SPAN lang=ES-UY

style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>El Plan de Emergencia Social
aplicado por el gobierno era una necesidad imperiosa para muchos uruguayos,
ahora se trata de sentar las bases para que nuestros compatriotas puedan vivir
trabajando recuperando la autoestima y recibiendo lo que les quitaron los que
durante décadas nos gobernaron.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman"><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Reclamamos participar en un
debate nacional sobre el papel del Estado, para que este cumpla con su papel de
dinamizador de la economía y de servicios a la
población.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman"><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Democratizar la sociedad
implica también construir un país que no establezca discriminación alguna por
motivos de género, raza, políticos, religiosos ni por opción
sexual.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman"><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Es imperiosa e impostergable
la aprobación de <st1:PersonName w:st="on" ProductID="la Ley">la
Ley</st1:PersonName> de Salud Reproductiva, desterrando una hipocresía social,
que ha cobrado tantas vidas de mujeres jóvenes mayoritariamente
pobres.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman"><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Asimismo la sanción de una
verdadera Ley de Reparación a los Derechos Jubilatorios de los perjudicados por
la dictadura en forma inmediata.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman"><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Por último queríamos
referirnos a los jóvenes.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>

tendenciosa, les ha dicho ¡¡hacé la tuya!! invitándolos a dejar de lado una de
las premisas mas lindas y reconfortantes de la vida que es la
solidaridad.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>

style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman"><SPAN

no se priven del placer de darle una mano al compañero, al amigo; de pelear
juntos por un mundo mejor, de cómo decía un gran luchador latinoamericano:

miles de trabajadores, organizados e independientes, fueron puestos en alerta.
Las fuerzas represoras policíacas y de la guardia nacional se prepararon para
contrarrestar a los trabajadores, recibieron equipo y armas nuevas financiadas
por poderosos líderes comerciales, que se oponían a las demandas laborales.
Chicago fue el centro principal de la agitación.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></FONT></P>

la masa trabajadora de hombres y mujeres. El gran desarrollo del proletariado
originó que se produjera el abuso de los capitales en detrimento de los salarios
obreros, lo que produjo enfrentamientos, agitaciones y luchas entre ambos
sectores.<BR><SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Los
trabajadores lograron agruparse en sindicatos para defender sus derechos y
lograr mejoras en su labor. En noviembre de</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt"> 1884 </SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">se
celebró en Chicago el</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt"> IV
</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">Congreso de <st1:PersonName
w:st="on" ProductID="la American Federation">la American
Federation</st1:PersonName> of Labor. En dicho Congreso se propuso que a partir
del</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt"> 1º </SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">de mayo de</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt"> 1886 </SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">se
obligara al sector patronal estadounidense a respetar la jornada de</SPAN><SPAN
lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt"> 8 </SPAN></FONT><FONT
face="Times New Roman"><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">horas, y si no,
se iría a la huelga, con mítines y concentraciones
obreras.<BR> Gracias a la incansable lucha del
trabajador mecánico Ira Steward, en</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt"> 1886,</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">
el Presidente de los Estados Unidos Andrew Johnson había promulgado la llanada
Ley Ingersoll, estableciendo las</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt">
8</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"> horas de trabajo diarias. Pero
esta Ley no se cumplió, por lo que las organizaciones laborales y sindicales
de</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt"> EEUU </SPAN></FONT><FONT
face="Times New Roman"><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">comenzaron a
luchar por su cumplimiento.<BR><SPAN

de la patronal, los obreros</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt">,
(350.000</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"> trabajadores),
organizados, paralizaron el país productivo con más de</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt"> 5 </SPAN></FONT><FONT face="Times New Roman"><SPAN
lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">mil huelgas.<BR><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN> El resultado fue exitoso
para la masa obrera en todos lados, menos en Chicago.<BR> El
Chicago Tribune, según detallan las crónicas, publicó: "El plomo es la mejor
alimentación de los huelguistas", y pedía para éstos prisión y trabajos forzados
como "la única solución posible a la cuestión social".<BR> Los
enfrentamientos de los trabajadores de la fábrica McCormik llevaban más
de</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt"> 2 </SPAN></FONT><FONT
face="Times New Roman"><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">meses de
agitaciones, con los patrones y rompehuelgas contratados para tales
efectos.<BR> El</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt"> 1º </SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">de
mayo de</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt"> 1886 </SPAN><SPAN
lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">el choque fue violento. Al día siguiente
intervino la policía para dispersar a más de</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY

pleno acto, la policía recibió órdenes de dispersar a los asistentes. Una bomba

Nacional violando deliberadamente el edicto que prohibía la entrada de gente de

Todos los trenes pararon, los corrales de ganado se cerraron, los muelles
estaban repletos de barcazas llenas de carga. A los líderes conservadores los
empujaron a la periferia. Un gran chorro de proletarios y familias, en ropa de
domingo, llenó la avenida Michigan.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><FONT

era engañosa y temporal. Escondidos en los callejones, desparramados en techos
estratégicos, esperaban policías armados listos para una guerra franca. En los
arsenales esperaban mil miembros de <st1:PersonName w:st="on"
ProductID="la Guardia Nacional">la Guardia Nacional</st1:PersonName> con equipo
especial: ametralladoras Gatling.<BR><SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>El primero de mayo
de</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt"> 1886,</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"> Albert Parsons, líder de la organización laboral
"Caballeros del Trabajo de Chicago", dirigió la manifestación de</SPAN><SPAN
lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt"> 80</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"> mil trabajadores a través de las calles de Chicago,
solicitando la reducción del horario laboral a</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt"> 8</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"> horas
diarias. En los siguientes días se unieron a esta demanda</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt"> 350 </SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">mil
trabajadores de toda <st1:PersonName w:st="on" ProductID="la Unión Americana">la
Unión Americana</st1:PersonName>, que iniciaron una huelga nacional que afectó
más de mil fábricas. La unión de los trabajadores causó mucha alarma entre los
industriales y en la prensa, pues vieron en las manifestaciones el inicio de una
"revolución".<o:p></o:p></SPAN></FONT></P>

director de un periódico laborista, habló ante</SPAN><SPAN

style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt; mso-ansi-language: ES">mil trabajadores. El grupo de
huelguistas se dirigió después a una fábrica cercana, la planta McCormick, a
manifestarse. Pronto llegó la policía, abrió fuego y mató por lo menos a un
huelgista, hiriendo a muchos más.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></FONT></P>

style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">en el mercado de la ciudad (Haymarket), con el propósito
de protestar por la brutal acción policíaca del día anterior. Spies, Parsons y
Samuel Fielden fueron los oradores en Haymarket, ante una reunión de</SPAN><SPAN
lang=ES-UY style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt"> 2.500</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"> trabajadores. Cuando la manifestación estaba terminando
y empezaba a llover, llegaron al lugar cerca de</SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt"> 200 </SPAN><SPAN lang=ES-UY
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">policías. Mientras la policía pedía que se dispersara la
reunión, alguien lanzó una bomba que estalló y mató a un policía. Se armó el
alboroto y en la confusión la policía comenzó a disparar, causando la muerte de
siete policías y cuatro trabajadores, además de muchos heridos. Nunca se supo
quién lanzó la bomba, pero este incidente se tomó como pretexto para perseguir
anarquistas y organizaciones laborales a lo largo del país. La policía saqueó
hogares de trabajadores y arrestó a muchos de
ellos.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></FONT></P>

verdadera causa de su muerte no fue la explosión de la bomba, sino su capacidad
para organizar a la clase obrera en demanda de mejoras laborales, con lo cual
amenazaban los intereses de industriales y conservadores dentro del
