size=2><BR> Trabajé durante los dos meses del conflicto,
en Prensa y Propaganda, con otro joven: Juan Ángel Toledo. Aprendí a repartir
papeles, a hablar con megáfonos y a trabajar con el planograf, algo que me
gustaba mucho.<BR> El planograf nos permitía dar rienda
suelta a nuestra imaginación. Era un marco de madera que tensaba una organza,
del largo de dos hojas de periódico. Hacíamos un dibujo en negativo, en
cartulina, que oficiaba de matriz y lo pegábamos sobre la organza, después, con
un lampazo deslizábamos la tinta de lado a lado del marco. Dibujábamos una
oveja, con grandes cuernos y le poníamos el nombre de los rompehuelgas. Los
pegábamos en las esquinas de sus casas. Se asustaban y se enfurecían, pero
dejaban de ir a trabajar durante la huelga. Eran parte de las medidas de fuerza
que usábamos. Métodos primitivos, casi infantiles, pero
efectivos.<BR> Empezaba la crisis de la década del
50.<BR> El fin de la segunda guerra mundial y de la
guerra de Corea permitió a Inglaterra y EE.UU. reanimar su industria. Dejaron de
importar tejidos para importar tops, (lana lavada y peinada sin hilar), con la
consiguiente pérdida de puestos de trabajo para los obreros textiles
uruguayos.<BR> Fue una huelga muy dura. Cincuenta y
cuatro días es mucho tiempo para sostener un hogar sin el
salario.<BR> El gremio salía de un gran desgaste: el año
anterior había sido la huelga de la Mundial, donde una compañera fue baleada en
la puerta de la fábrica.<BR> Las patronales podían
sostener un lock-out durante varios meses porque tenían stock suficiente de
mercadería para cumplir con los importadores.<BR> En la
Federación de la Carne, en la calle Grecia, instalamos una olla sindical y
repartimos comestibles que pedíamos en los comercios. La Campaña del kilo, como
la llamamos, para los huelguistas y sus familias fue un
respiro.<BR> Cada día se volvía más duro sostener la
huelga.<BR> A los treinta días de comenzado el conflicto
entró un veinte por ciento de los trabajadores; fundamentalmente
administrativos, encargados y capataces. Otros trabajadores, salieron a buscar
la changa. Por otro lado, se sumaron a la huelga otras fábricas, en solidaridad
con los obreros de Lana Uruguaya, del Cerro.<BR> La
patronal seguía tan dura como el primer día, no reconocía Sindicato ni derechos
de organización. Con Don Pedro no podíamos negociar nada, pretendía matarnos de
hambre, tenía cuerda para rato con un gran stock en los
galpones.<BR> Pusimos piquetes en las esquinas de la
fábrica para que no entraran a trabajar los rompehuelgas. Los obreros del Cerro
íbamos a detener a los que querían entrar en las fábricas del Paso Molino y los
del Paso venían a detener a los del Cerro.<BR> Durante
esta lucha mataron de un balazo a Antonio Gómez Delgado, un compañero de la
Unión Obrera Textil que pretendió hablar con un rompehuelgas, éste sin mediar
palabra, le disparó en el pecho. Antonio tenía diecinueve años. Éramos todos muy
jóvenes.<BR> Las mujeres tuvimos una gran participación
en esta lucha. Las obreras textiles ganamos la calle. Instrumentamos cosas que
sabían que les dolerían a las carneras. Cuando no entraron las palabras, nos
fuimos a las manos.<BR> Lo que pasaba en la calle lo
cuentan los partes policiales que aparecían en la prensa montevideana de
entonces, cuando la huelga se generalizó al resto de las
fábricas.<BR> «En la intersección de las calles Grecia y
Francia, a las 5.30 de hoy, un grupo no determinado de personas, presumiblemente
mujeres, le cortaron el cabello a dos obreras que se dirigían a trabajar a Lana
Uruguaya, empresa que se encuentra en conflicto. Se averigua...». Diario El
Plata.<BR> Los obreros del transporte participaron en
forma solidaria.<BR> «Un grupo de personas hicieron
bajar del ómnibus a tres mujeres que se dirigían a trabajar a una fábrica en
conflicto, una vez abajo les cortaron mechones de pelo y les rasgaron la ropa.
Esto ocurrió con la supuesta colaboración del guarda y del conductor del ómnibus
que no se detuvo en la parada, que era en la puerta de la fábrica, sino más
adelante. Se averigua...». – Diario El País.<BR> ¡Ya no
se animan a entrar, sigue la huelga! ¡Viva la huelga! A otras les quitamos los
zapatos. Duele, que te dejen descalza en la calle.<BR>
Nosotras luchábamos por todos. Como también algunos hombres entraban a trabajar,
empezamos a pegar carteles de ovejas cornudas con sus nombres en la esquina de
sus casas. En un barrio obrero, como el Cerro, eso
quemaba.<BR> Tuvimos que pelear en la forma más
primitiva, más salvaje, cuerpo a cuerpo.<BR> Así empezó
el sindicato unitario en textiles, quebrando al sindicato amarillo conciliado
con la patronal. Primero fue la Unión Obrera Textil y en 1956, con la
integración de Alpargatas, Paylana y la textil de Juan Lacaze, constituimos el
Congreso Obrero Textil, sindicato único para la industria
textil.<BR> Las mujeres fuimos protagonistas. Y pensar
que se dice que el sindicato es «cosa de hombres». ¿Y las mujeres, qué? ¿Por qué
no están en la foto?<BR> No se sabe mucho de lo que
hacen las mujeres en el sindicato. Como en la vida cotidiana, no aparecemos.
