tarde, tuvo un aborto espontáneo, sola, en el baño. ¡Eso no se podía aguantar!
La atendimos entre todas, ella estaba desmayada. Paramos las máquinas. ¡Eso no
se podía aguantar! No teníamos nada, ¡ni una enfermería en la
fábrica!<BR> Empezó así, como un estallido, con bronca.
Ocupamos la fábrica, paramos y después hablamos de sindicato. Fue una huelga muy
difícil. El patrón mostró su fuerza y nosotras
también.<BR> Durante ese conflicto pasaron más cosas,
como cuando estábamos sentadas en la escalinata de la fábrica, haciendo paro de
brazos caídos, y la patronal llamó a la policía. Llegaron y se ubicaron delante
de la fábrica. Nosotras estábamos tranquilas... y de repente sentimos un tiro.
Una compañera empezó a gritar: “¡Sangre! ¡Tengo sangre!”. Hubo mucha confusión,
unas corrieron a socorrer a la compañera, otras a los portones a gritarles a los
milicos: “¿Qué les pasa? ¿Están locos?”. “Me dieron un balazo en la pierna”,
gritaba nuestra compañera. A lo lejos escuchábamos los gritos de los vecinos y
de nuestros familiares, acercándose.<BR> A la policía no
se le movió un pelo. Dijeron que se les escapó un balazo, sin querer. No la
socorrieron, tuvimos que salir nosotras a buscar un auto. Pedimos que se
retirara la policía, y lo hicieron, cuando vieron que estaban llegando
compañeras de otras fábricas y vecinos indignados.<BR> Y
así empezó la huelga del 53 de la Mundial, como un estallido, respondiendo a los
golpes de la patronal. Estallamos como ustedes, los de Lana
Uruguaya».<BR> De esa huelga surgió como dirigente
sindical Blanca Peralta, de La Mundial.<BR> En cada
huelga, el gremio textil iba pariendo nuevas mujeres, forjadas en la lucha, que
se destacarían como dirigentes. Recuerdo algunas compañeras de aquel entonces:
Irene Pérez, Delia Maldonado, Delia Rodríguez, Oklahoma Acosta, Jorgelina
Martínez.<BR> Pero son las menos. Aunque en esta
industria la mayoría son obreras, hay muy pocas que lleguen a la dirección del
gremio; quedan a medio camino. <FONT size=2 face=Arial><FONT size=2

<DIV> Lucía tenía cuatro hijas, la más chica de catorce
años y la más grande de veinte.<BR> Entró en la fábrica
SADIL muy respaldada, con una recomendación de un senador del partido colorado y
aunque no se lo preguntaras ella te lo hacía saber para que te enteraras de sus
padrinos.<BR> Nos llamaban la atención las pilchas y los
anillos que traía. A veces decía que no necesitaba trabajar y nos dejaba caer
unos ojos tristes de mujer abandonada por su esposo, un deportista venido a
menos, que ella seguía sosteniendo económica y
anímicamente.<BR> Siempre que entraban nuevas aparecían
cosas raras, que nos ponían en alerta.<BR> La nueva es
objeto de observación: ¿De dónde viene? ¿Cómo vive? Generalmente se les ve el
plumero enseguida. Pero Lucía nos vendió un tranvía y se lo compramos. Hablaba
muy bien, muy culta, atenta, cariñosa. Decía que nunca había trabajado en una
fábrica pero que se tenía que acostumbrar. Sus hijas tampoco trabajaban, no
estaban acostumbradas. Parecía una rica venida a menos, que lo llevaba
dignamente. La veíamos mirarse las manos, que se deterioraban lentamente, y
pasarse una crema.<BR> Un día de pago, terminada la
jornada, a la pobre Paulina le desapareció el sobre con todo el dinero de la
quincena. Se lo quitaron del bolsillo de la túnica mientras estaba trabajando,
algo inexplicable. Ella no sintió nada, pensamos que lo había
perdido.<BR> -¡Me lo punguearon! -dijo Paulina en voz
alta–. ¡El sobre con la quincena!<BR> -¿No se te habrá
caído?<BR> Lo buscamos por todos lados. La sección casi
dejó de trabajar por buscarlo. Paulina lloraba amargamente: tenía dos hijitas
pequeñas y estaba sola para mantenerlas, estaba separada de su esposo. Las demás
resolvimos hacer una colecta para compensarla.<BR> Lucía
se portó muy bien, puso el doble del dinero que ponía cada una de nosotras. Nos
pareció un gesto muy solidario.<BR> A los dos meses, un
día de lluvia, faltó un paraguas del vestuario y un pilot de otra compañera, muy
bonito, inigualable, porque su novio se lo había traído de Brasil. Todas nos
pusimos furiosas, soltábamos indirectas, estábamos nerviosas, desconfiadas.
<BR> -Ya la vamos a
encontrar.<BR> -Y no se salva de una
paliza.<BR> Al poco tiempo una compañera vio a la hija
de Lucia en una parada de ómnibus, en el Centro, luciendo el pilot en
cuestión.<BR> El lunes se armó el revuelo. Rodeamos a
Lucía en el vestuario y le pedimos explicaciones. Negaba, se arrodillaba, juraba
por las hijas. Las víctimas de los robos querían pegarle y que confesara. Otras
proponían que fuera una comisión a la casa, a pedir las cosas. Llegó la hora de
entrar a trabajar y estábamos a los tirones. Las tres interesadas y la delegada
de la sección no querían entrar, querían aclararlo todo. La tenían como presa,
no la dejaban entrar a la sección, ni salir del vestuario. Los compañeros de la
fábrica se enteraron lo que estaba pasando en el vestuario de
mujeres.<BR> A una de nosotras se le ocurrió que debería
ir una sola de las compañeras del turno que salía, a buscar el pilot y que
sirviera de prueba. Así fue. Las hijas le dieron las prendas que supuestamente
su madre mandaba buscar, es decir el paraguas y el
pilot.<BR> Ya con la prenda en manos de sus dueñas era
muy difícil justificar nada, eran hechos consumados. Cinco mujeres estábamos
fuera del puesto de trabajo, peleándonos en el vestuario, tomando la justicia en
nuestras manos.<BR> A esa hora hasta el jefe de personal
sabía lo que estaba pasando en el vestuario. Llamaron a todo el grupo a la
oficina de personal.<BR> El jefe nos dijo que él tenía
que denunciar el robo a la policía que el mismo es causal de despido y que
además las dos que fueron víctimas del robo estaban en su derecho a denunciarla
también a la policía.<BR> -Nosotras no queremos ni una
cosa, ni la otra -le contestamos-. Solo queremos darle un escarmiento. No somos
quien para quitarle el pan a nadie y denunciarla a la policía tampoco, porque
para eso nos bastamos nosotras, que una paliza a tiempo no le va mal a
nadie.<BR> -Pa’ que aprenda -dijo
Paulina.<BR> El jefe dijo:<BR>
-Siendo así les tengo que hacer el parte a ustedes también por estar fuera del
lugar de trabajo. Si ya está aclarado, cada una a su puesto. Ella, se queda para
hablar al respecto.<BR> Al salir de la oficina le dice
una:<BR> -¡Chorra! ¡Ladrona!<BR>
Lucía contestó llorando:<BR> -¡No seas mala! Tengo una
enfermedad: soy cleptómana.<BR> Todas retrocedimos
dispuestas a pegarle:<BR> -¡Te vamos a dar, cleptómana!
¡Ladrona!<BR> El jefe tuvo que ponerse en medio para que
no le pegáramos. Así, a los empujones salimos de la oficina hacia la sección de
hilandería.<BR> Cuando caminábamos hacia la sección una
dice:<BR> -¿Saben? Me dio lástima,
pobre.<BR> -¿Está enferma?<BR>
-Nada -dice Teresa-. Yo leí que la cleptomanía es una enfermedad de ricos, y a
ésta sólo le quedan las mañas. Es una chorra y lo peor, es una mala compañera,
no piensa en nadie. Con razón dio doble para Paulina, se quedaba con todo el
sueldo de una compañera sin importarle nada.<BR> -¿Quién
tiene derecho a robarle a otra? ¿Eh?<BR> -Lástima que se
nos encarajinó con el jefe. Porque lo que es ésta, con la paliza que le dimos,
no roba más -dice Paulina, remangándose las mangas de la camisa y con la cara
