size=2><BR> La invitación llegó al gremio textil
desde Hungría, de parte de la Federación Sindical Mundial. Se trataba de una
Conferencia de Mujeres Trabajadoras con convocatoria internacional. No hablaban
de solventar el viaje.<BR> La dirección de nuestro
gremio consideró importantes las relaciones internacionales y resolvió organizar
una rifa para solventarlo. El tiempo apremiaba y no se llegaba a completar la
cifra total. Cercano a la fecha de viajar sólo se tenía el cincuenta por ciento
del dinero. Consultadas, las dos compañeras aceptaron correr el riesgo de viajar
sólo con pasaje de ida, con la salvedad que, desde aquí, seguirían gestionando
el tema del retorno.<BR> Eso de ir a Budapest sin pasaje
de retorno era una verdadera locura.<BR> Mamá preparó
los tallarines como cualquier domingo. Vinieron dos hermanos y tres
sobrinas.<BR> Mi vieja estaba muy silenciosa. Me daba
miedo que en cualquier momento saltara con una…<BR> No
era una despedida, era una preocupación para todos. Y mi vieja lo
soltó:<BR> -Ese país, dicen que está atrás de la cortina
de hierro.<BR> -Las cosas cambiaron mucho. No nos va a
pasar nada.<BR> -Esa compañera que va, ¿ya la
conocías?<BR> -Si es macanuda, Delia
Maldonado.<BR> -Su familia también estará
preocupada.<BR> -Es una gran oportunidad -dijo mi
hermano.<BR> Y mamá nos miró con una sonrisa
irónica.<BR> -Los del sindicato podían haber sacado un
préstamo -dijo mi sobrina-, cuando vieron que el dinero de la rifa no alcanzaba
y se terminaba de pagar con otra rifa. No se puede creer que las manden solo con
el pasaje de ida.<BR> Ojalá que no sea para sacárselas
de encima.<BR> Y se rió.<BR>
-Hablando de préstamo ¿alguien me puede prestar una valija? El barco sale el
martes a las 12 de la mañana. No sabemos si tenemos camarote -dijo la
negra.<BR> Las compañeras viajaron en tercera de un
buque italiano. No les preocupaba.<BR> Del viaje por mar
contaron poco. Las dos viajaron como perro en bote, un poco asustadas. Días y
días viendo agua y cielo y algún temporal. Los relámpagos en el mar se ven de
principio a fin. Cabalgando las olas.<BR> Y así llegaron
a Europa. Siguieron viajando en tren hasta llegar a su destino. Sin plata y
hablando por señas. Disfrutando todo lo que veían y escuchaban. Sin saberlo
estaban viviendo los cambios que pronto llegaron a esos países de «detrás de la
cortina de hierro». Se estaban produciendo los cambios que ellas contaron al
llegar.<BR> Contaron de la solidaridad que recibieron de
las otras delegadas cuando se enteraron de que no tenían pasaje de retorno a
Uruguay. Siempre la misma pregunta en distintos
idiomas:<BR> -¿Cómo pasaje sin
retorno?<BR> El tema se hablaba en los pasillos, con
ellas mismas.<BR> Las dos uruguayas resultaron muy
interesantes en Hungría, tanto para las delegadas como para las intérpretes. Al
escucharlas, en las intervenciones, se hicieron populares. Les gustaba la
personalidad de Jorgelina, la sonrisa y la humildad de
Delia.<BR> Aunque no eran comunistas y además venían
representando a sindicatos autónomos de su país, hablaban de métodos sindicales
diferentes. Contaron que en las calles de Montevideo estaban las obreras y los
obreros en pie de lucha por derechos sindicales. Corría el año 1956 y se
intentaba salvar las fuentes de trabajo buscando formar una Central Unica de
trabajadores, con hombres y mujeres de todas las tendencias políticas, eso
asombraba. Lo decían en castellano, se repetía en distintas lenguas, distintas
cabezas se movían afirmativamente. Hablaron y escucharon, sintieron que estaban
en la tarea que habían ido a cumplir con las compañeras de otras
geografías.<BR> Tres meses después de la conferencia en
Budapest, en octubre, se confirmó lo que las dos compañeras, en julio, contaron
a su regreso a la comisión directiva del sindicato
textil.<BR> El descontento que pudieron apreciar por

<DIV> Eramos muchas: setenta delegadas de la Capital y
treinta del Interior. Llegaron obreras textiles desde Paysandú y Juan
Lacaze.<BR> Sábado y domingo funcionaríamos en el Centro
Obrero de Alpargatas, el local más grande y cómodo del
gremio.<BR> Estaba todo preparado para recibir a las
compañeras y alojar a las que llegaban del Interior. Cuando arribaron las dos
bañaderas se escucharon cantos y salimos todas del local a recibirlas: abrazos y
besos, conociéndonos y reconociéndonos.<BR> Ya están los
mates y las bolsas de bizcochos circulando. Poco a poco nos vamos sentando para
dar comienzo a la jornada.<BR> Hoy, 20 de octubre de
1956, el compañero Ruben Huguet en nombre del C.O.A. da comienzo a la primera
Conferencia Nacional de Mujeres Textiles, en
Montevideo.<BR> Jorgelina Martínez y Delia Maldonado son
invitadas a pasar a la mesa y dar el informe de lo actuado en la Conferencia
Mundial de Mujeres Trabajadoras realizada en junio del mismo año en Budapest,
donde representaron a las obreras de nuestro país.<BR>
Jorgelina destaca que la situación y el nivel de vida de las obreras húngaras y
de sus familias están relacionados con la fuerza de organización sindical y la
participación política y social de su comunidad. Cuenta muchas
anécdotas.<BR> Delia Maldonado destaca que esta
Conferencia, con la representación de tantas fábricas de todo el país, debe ser
el comienzo de una relación muy estrecha entre nosotras, las obreras textiles
Hoy más que nunca se requiere nuestra militancia para conseguir nuevas leyes y
exigir que se cumplan las actuales, ya que la tendencia de las empresas es a
burlar los derechos de los trabajadores. Y en forma muy documentada se refiere a
los logros en Uruguay.<BR> Nosotras no sentíamos
orgullosas de las dos. ¿Quiénes nos habrían representado mejor que
ellas?<BR> Luego se da la palabra a las congresistas. Se
elige una compañera de Paylana y otra de Juan Lacaze para la
presidencia.<BR> Tanto las compañeras del Interior como
las de Montevideo aportaron a los temas comunes un lenguaje combativo y
optimista.<BR> Blanca Peralta, propone que se realice
una encuesta en todas las fábricas acerca de los problemas que afectan
específicamente a las obreras textiles. Dice además, que a través de las huelgas
se comprobó que las obreras textiles tenemos una inquebrantable voluntad de
lucha, que nunca vacilamos ni siquiera cuando tuvimos que enfrentar al gobierno
y a la policía y que debemos reforzar la militancia y hacer del sindicato un
lugar también nuestro.<BR> Al día siguiente se trabaja
afanosamente y se recogen las conclusiones:<BR> 1) A
igual trabajo, igual salario.<BR> 2) Que el ritmo de
trabajo no afecte a la salud de las mujeres
trabajadoras.<BR> 3) Realización de una encuesta
nacional sobre las necesidades de las obreras madres, orientada a reivindicar
las casas-cunas en los lugares de trabajo.<BR> 4) La
Conferencia reconoce el día 8 de marzo de cada año como Jornada Internacional de
la Mujer Trabajadora. Acuerda participar activamente en su conmemoración y
explicar los motivos de tal jornada.<BR> 5) La
Conferencia resuelve participar con una delegación en la próxima Conferencia
Nacional de Mujeres Trabajadoras de todos los gremios, a realizarse en noviembre
en Montevideo.<BR> 6) La Conferencia expresa finalmente
la solidaridad con los trabajadores de Montevideo y del interior que se
encuentran en conflicto, especialmente con las compañeras de FUNSA que acampan
frente al Palacio Legislativo.<BR> Se propone que las
conclusiones de la Conferencia se integren en el orden del día del próximo
Congreso Nacional de Obreros Textiles, para considerar las reivindicaciones de
la totalidad del gremio.<BR> Años después, el gremio
textil, fue el primero en obtener «a igual trabajo, igual
salario».<BR> Esos dos días fueron muy emocionantes para
todas. ¡Juntarse cien mujeres para hablar de cosas propias, inquietudes,
propuestas! Nada de esto impidió las ruedas de mates en los descansos, las
risas, la confraternidad, las promesas de visitarse.<BR>
Esta actividad consolidó más la unidad del gremio textil y agregó madurez al
movimiento obrero que ya estaba reuniéndose en la Comisión Pro-Central Única de
Trabajadores. De eso también se pudo hablar ese año tan fermental y
combativo.<BR> Hay cosas que no se olvidan: la polenta,
el viento en la camiseta, que trajeron Jorgelina y Delia al regresar de
Budapest. La fuerza que necesitábamos para seguir en la lucha. Ahora todas
comunicadas, agigantadas. </FONT></FONT><FONT size=2 face=Arial><FONT
