Dear friends,

Ana and I have been working on developing plans for International  Women's 
Day and are attaching the latest draft to get your input. I'm sorry it  is 
currently only in English but will be translated into the other languages.  We have 
been getting much support from the GCAP Secretariat and will be  focusing on 
making the linkages with the global financial crisis and its  impact on women. 
We hope to maximize the message around the financial  crisis, women and 
poverty as well as highlighting a gender component to  the crises (linking to food, 
fuel and climate change as appropriate).   There are a number of high level 
financial and economic events/meetings which  come around March 8th, one of 
which is the G-20 meeting in London on April  2nd, with mobilizations beginning 
on March 28th around the world but focused  on a big rally in London that day.

The thrust of our IWD mobilization will be on an e-campaign called " 20  Days 
to the G-20" beginning on March 8 and culminating on March 28 when the  mass 
mobilizing will take over. We hope to carry over the gender message  through 
to the G-20 meeting as well but want to make the link between women  and the 
financial issues by connecting IWD to the G-20 meeting.  Enclosed  please find 
the IWD 2009 Toolkit guide which elaborates on the plans. It will  be sent 
around to all GCAP constituencies next week so we ask for your  input/feedback at 
the earliest, the latest I would say over the weekend, if  you are able.

We are hoping to schedule a conference call for next week since we missed  
our last call due to the World Social Forum.  The proposed date is  Tuesday, 
Feb. 17 at 11:15 GMT, a week before our scheduled call to try to  finalize any 
details from the toolkit and other plans in a timely manner.  Also, Ana will be 
taking the Global Council call on Thursday of next week, so  it will be good 
to have this call prior to that.

I also have information on the UN Commission on the Status of Women, in  case 
some of you will be attending. I'll send that later.  For now,  please review 
the Toolkit guide and provide input at the earliest.

Thanks to all --Ana, Marcela and other FTF members--Marta B., Cecilia,  
Adelaida--for the wonderful work in Belem. I didn't get to send out a  note---came 
back to tons of work---but Ana relayed my sentiments in her note.

Ana y yo hemos estado  trabajando en el desarrollo de planes para el Día 
Internacional de la Mujer  cuales están adjuntos para su aportes. Lo siento que 
por ahora sólo esta  en inglés, pero será traducido despues a los demás idiomas. 
Hemos estado  recibiendo mucho apoyo de la Secretaría del GCAP.  El DIM  se 
centrará en hacer de la vinculación con la crisis financiera mundial y  su 
impacto en las mujeres. Esperamos poder maximizar el mensaje en torno a la  crisis 
financiera, las mujeres y la pobreza, así como poner de relieve un  
componente de género a las crisis (que une a la alimentación, el combustible y  el 
cambio climático, según el caso). Hay una serie de eventos y reuniones  sobre el 
tema financiero y económico que vienen en torno a 8 de marzo, uno de  los 
cuales es el G-20 en Londres el 2 de abril, con movilizaciones a partir  del 28 de 
marzo en todo el mundo, pero se centra en una demostracion  grande en Londres 
ese día. 

La idea central de nuestra  movilización será en una e-campaña "20 Días para 
el G-20" que comenzará el 8  de marzo y culmina el 28 de marzo, cuando habra 
movilizaciones en grande  escala. Esperamos poder inlcuir más la perspectiva de

lo última diría  durante el fin de semana. 

Esperamos poder programar una llamada de  conferencia para la próxima semana 
ya que perdimos nuestra última llamada  debido a el Foro Social Mundial. La 
fecha propuesta es el martes, 17 de  febrero a las 11:15 GMT, una semana antes 
de la programada  llamada para tratar de ultimar los detalles de la guía y 
otros planes.  Además, Ana se estara en la llamada del GCAP Consejo Mundial el 
jueves de la  próxima semana, por lo que será bueno tener nuestra llamada antes 
de esa  reunion. 

También tengo información sobre la ONU Comisión Juridica  sobre la Condición 
de la Mujer, en caso de que algunos de ustedes van a  asistir. Lo envio más 
tarde. Por el momento, por favor, revise la guía de  herramientas y dar entrada 
a la mayor brevedad. 

Gracias a todas - Ana,  Marcela y otros miembros del FTF - Marta B., Cecilia, 
Adelaida - por el  maravilloso trabajo en Belem. No he podido enviar una nota 
--- volvi a  toneladas de trabajo --- pero Ana ha retransmitido mis
