Dear friends,
Happy International Women's Day! Thanks to all those who have helped us
launch this IWD e-mobilization. Please stay engaged during these 20 Days and
remain active.

On the ground here in New York, we've been busy with the FTF/ENLACE Women's
Organizing around the Financial Crisis, the Interactive Expert Panel on the
Gender Perspectives of the Fin. Crisis, in which Sylvia Borren was scheduled
to provide a statement (she and 5 other NGOs were not granted time to
present), and the meeting on Friday of the Women's Working Group on FfD (update on
this to follow). Yesterday, Saturday, there was a meeting of the Gender
Equality Architecture Reform (GEAR) which we will feature in the 20 Days e-campaign.
Next week we will partner with the Women of Color Policy Network-NYU for
another event on Trickle-down Economics. Will keep you informed.

Hope you all have wonderful March 8th celebrations!

Best,
Rosa

International Women's Day / Día Internacional de las Mujeres / Dia

العالمي

Today, March 8, we celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) with pride and
activism!
Today we launch our global e-campaign, “20 Days to G20,† highlighting the
connections between the feminization of poverty and the global financial and
economic crisis. The effects of this crisis impact women more severely due
to the large numbers of women in the informal sector, as well as increased
family and community tensions which lead to violence against women, cuts in
public sector services such as health care and education, decreased remittances,
increased migration, among other factors.
For the next 20 days, from March 8 to March 28, we will provide DAILY ALERTS
on how the financial crisis is impacting women and perpetuating the cycle of
 poverty.
We will call for women to be central to the solutions in addressing the
financial crisis and to be part of the decision-making processes.
We will highlight various aspects of women’s lives which are impacted by the
financial crisis, and are exacerbated by the food, fuel and climate change
crises.
Our “20 Days to G20† e-campaign will culminate on March 28, the beginning
of the Global Week of Action on the G20 (March 28 – April 4), and will feed
into the global mobilizations planned around the G20 meeting of governments
on April 2, 2009. Check out our IWD Tool Kit for tools, lists of actions
and all IWD material (available in English, Spanish, French, Arabic and
Portuguese) at

Our daily ACTION ALERTS will call on YOU to take ACTION during the “20 Days
to G20† e-campaign. We will keep the ACTION ALERTS brief to encourage you
to: spend your time sending an e-card to government officials; write an
opinion piece to your local paper; sign a  petition; join a march, rally or protest;
get informed on the issues surrounding the global crises affecting women.
