[Gcap-mujeres] GCAP Co-chairs

Queridas amigas, dear friends (español abajo),

Last Thursday at the IFT call the final decision was taken with respect to the new two co-chairs of GCAP. They are Silvia Borren from the North and myself from the South, who will hold this position till the end of December. 
This implies a big responsibility, above all working to ensure that our demand of gender equality as a condition to eradicate poverty becomes a core demand of GCAP and not one that national coalitions can choose to present or not depending on their particular realities.
I think we have gone a long way as FTF, though every single achievement has to be defended and we cannot take any support for our demands for granted. Rosa and all our colleagues who represent the FTF in various task forces know very well the need to be alert in terms of language, demands, etc. 
We have all worked very hard over these years and the fact that we have now two women as co-chairs is not by chance. I look forward with enthusiasm to our work with Silvia and at the next 17th of October as a space where the reality of women is highlighted. We do not want only that women are mentioned as the ones who are over-represented in poverty statistics but as the carriers of hope, with knowledge and abilities to change the situations they face. We also do not want GCAP to call for "help for the poor" (as it was written in  the last policy document to which I sent corrections) but a fundamental questioning of the socio-economic model imposed by rich countries to humanity as a whole. We are therefore demanding changes that will affect the lifestyle of consumers who is impacting negatively in other human being and in our common planet. 
GCAP is an important global space where we have managed to bring our voices, loud and clear. I thank you all for your constant support and look forward to a greater involvement towards the 17th of October so we can make the Women´s Tribunals against Poverty an action with concrete impact and that mobilises GCAP as a whole. We will be sharing further information of these activities in the coming days and look forward to all of you being actively involved.

El jueves pasado fue la reunión del EFI y se tomó la decisión final sobre las próximas co-chairs de GCAP. Son Silvia Borren por el norte y yo por el sur, que estaremos en esta posición hasta fines de diciembre.
Se trata de una gran responsabilidad, sobre todo por el desafío de lograr la consolidación de nuestra demanda por la igualdad de género como condición para la erradicación de la pobreza como central de GCAP y no como un punto más que las coaliciones nacionales incorporan o no según definan sus situaciones particulares. 
Creo que hemos hechos grandes avances como ETF, aun cuando cada logro hay que defenderlo constantemente. Rosa y todas nuestras colegas que nos representan en diversos equipos de trabajo saben muy bien que se necesita siempre estar alerta en cuanto al lenguaje, las demandas que se plantean, etc.
Todas hemos trabajado intensamente a lo largo de estos años y no es casual que ahora tengamos dos mujeres como co-chairs de GCAP. Me entusiasma el trabajo conjunto que podremos realizar con Silvia y también tengo grandes expectativas para el próximo 17 de octubre en el que confío se destacará especialmente la situación de la mujer. Pero no queremos que se hable de las mujeres exclusivamente como las que estamos sobre-representadas en las estadísticas de pobreza sino también como portadoras de esperanza, con conocimientos y habilidades para cambiar y superar las situaciones por las que atraviesan. Tampoco queremos que GCAP haga un llamado para "ayudar a los pobres" (así figuraba en el último documento de política de GCAP para el que mandé correcciones) sino que realice un cuestionamiento profundo al modelo social y económico impuesto por los países ricos al conjunto de la humanidad. Lo que demandamos por lo tanto son cambios en el estilo de vida de grandes consumidores que impactan negativamente en la vida de otros seres humanos y en nuestro planeta común. 
GCAP es un espacio global importante en el que hemos logrado hacer oir clara y fuertemente nuestra voz. Les agradezco a todas el apoyo constante y confío que puedan participar aún más en las acciones hacia el 17 de octubre de manera que los Tribunales de las Mujeres contra la Pobreza resulten en impactos concretos y movilicen al conjunto de GCAP.
Les estaremos enviando más información en breve sobre estas actividaes y confiamos en una activa participación de todas ustedes.
