[Gcap-mujeres] IFT call and FTF meeting/llamado GFI y reunion GTF

Dear friends,
greetings from South Africa. I am on my way to Nairobi and back at my South 
African home! So I had the opportunity to take the IFT call at the Civicus 
office and already meet with the support team in preparation for the 
Montevideo Meeting that as you know is taking place from 2 to 4 April this 
year.
The main topic of the call was to decide on the mobilisation date for this 
year. As you know it was originally decided to have it around 07.07.07 and 
then some issues were brought up due to other mobilisations taking place 
around climate change and the fact that -so wrote the mobilisation team-
 "climate change and poverty do not have close links". I criticised that 
strongly at the IFT call in December as I believe climate change and poverty 
are so much interlinked and they both relate to the model of overconsumption 
promoted by the neoliberal economies dominating the world. In any case, a 
vote was taken and although not many IFT members participated yesterday we 
did arrive to a consensus that needs to be ratified by the whole IFT. That is 
to have the main mobilisation on October 17 (International Day for the 
eradication of poverty) and several mobilisations building up towards that 
date. The first one will be on 8 March and as FTF we have the task to support 
the whole GCAP providing info, suggestions for actions, messages, etc. I 
think it is a great opportunity to bring gender to the mainstream of GCAP and 
to finally have our demand of gender equality to end poverty properly 
highlighted. So this will be one of the main issues we will address at our 
meeting in Nairobi. Please send us recommendations on this respect.
The meeting will take place on 19 and 20 January at the Kenya Institute of 
Education, next to Kasarani Studium, in Nairobi. All of you who are attending 
the WSF are encouraged to join us at the meeting!!! I am attaching the draft 
agenda. Your comments are also welcome!

On 21 January we will be presenting a workshop at the WSF organised together 
with the Gender and Education Office from ICAE. We will be sending 
information from all these activities after Nairobi.

One last thing about the call yesterday. GCAP will be hiring three people for 
the support team. Deadline for presenting applications is on 15 January and 
the information was circulated through the globalactionforum list. Please 
encourage women to apply!!! It would be great to have a FTF member working 
regularly for the support team.

Amigas, 
Saludos desde Sudafrica. Estoy camino a Nairobi y nuevamente en mi casa 
sudafricana! De manera que tuve la posibilidad de tomar la llamada del GFI en 
la oficina y Civicus y reunirme con el grupo de trabajo en preparacion para 
la reunion global que como saben sera en Montevideo del 2 al 4 de abril.
El principal tema de la reunion fue decidir sobre la fecha de movilizacion 
para este anho. Como saben originalmente se acordo una fecha en torno al 
07.07.07. pero luego se planteo rever pues hay otras movilizaciones alrededor 
del cambio climatico, y, segun el grupo de movilizacion, “no hay mucha 
relacion entre pobreza y cambio climatico”. Yo critique esa posicion 
duramente en la reunion de diciembre pues creo que el cambio climatico y la 
pobreza se relacionan estrechamente y ambos tienen que ver con el modelo de 
sobre consumo promvido por las economicas liberales dominantes. 
De todas maneras, se realizo una votacion y aunque no participaron todos los 
miembros del GFI ayer se arribo a un consenso a ser ratificado por todos los 
integrantes. Este es el de tener la movilizacion central el 17 de octubre 
(Dia internacional de lucha contra la pobreza) y varias movilizaciones 
preparatorias de esa fecha. La primera sera el 8 de marzo y como GTF tenemos 
la tarea de apoyar a todo GCAP aportando informacion, sugerencias para 
acciones, mensajes, etc. Creo que es una muy buena oportunidad para ubicar el 
genero como tema central y sobre todo para finalmente lograr el 
reconocimiento de la igualdad de genero como esencial para la erradicacion de 
la pobreza. De manera que este sera uno de los temas principales a tratar en 
la reunion del GTF en Nairobi. Les agradecemos que nos envien propuestas en 
este sentido. 

La reunion sera del 19 al 20 de enero en el “Kenya Institute of Education”, 
junto al Kasarani Studium, en Nairobi. Las invitamos a todas las que estaran 
en el FSM a sumarse a la reunion!! Les adjunto el borrador de agenda, y 
tambien les agradecemos comentarios.

estas actividades luego de Nairobi.

Una ultima informacion sobre la reunion de ayer. GCAP va a contratar a tres 
personas para el equipo de apoyo y el plazo para presentarse vence el 15 de 
enero. La informacion circulo en la lista globalactionforum. Si alguna sabe 
de mujeres que puedan presentarse, motivenlas!!! Seria muy bueno contar con 
integrantes del ETF trabajando regularmente en el grupo de apoyo.
