CALL FOR SUPPORT: G-8 Summit June 6-8, 2007 Rostock, Germany and Mobilization from GCAP in Alternative Forums

Attention: Focal persons in National Coalitions, Regional/sub-regional Coordinators, task group members and constituency group coordinators.

Dear All,

As you all know, GCAP is mobilizing its coalitions and other peer networks at an alternative summit around the G-8 Summit June 6-8, 2007 in Rostock, Germany (see www.g8-germany.info). GCAP's response to the summit will come in different ways and forms. The GCAP German coalition and other peer networks are mobilizing to prepare mutual activities and events around the venue between June 2 nd and 8th. We will also be participating in rallies/ actions in all G-8 countries on June 2nd. Our presence in Rostok will include media appearances, street actions, signed petitions for German Chancellors (aiming for at least a million signatures) and of course our response to the G-8 communiqué from a global, Africn and Asian perspective among others.

The most important items on the GCAP agenda are:

- Solidarity march in Rostock Germany with other coalitions and networks June 2nd.

- Press conference and media interviews by some GCAP ambassadors and coalition members, IFT members between 2 nd of June and 8th in particular

- Visibility at a massive open-air concert in Rostok on the evening of June 7th

- Getting maximum number of signatures from GCAP constituents on petition prepared by German coalition

- Presenting immediate response on G-8 summit communiqué especially from Africa and Asia on June 8th

In this regards we need your support to:

1.. Inform us who is actually attending these alternative events, forums and rallies in Rostock or other countries and what actions are you planning to take/organize.
2.. To all those that are planning to participate in the alternative forums in Rostock, can we request you please bring your GCAP slogan banners, white-bands, T-shirts and another material to Rostock. The idea is to be present there and be visible in our response.
3.. Please sign the online petition that is available on
Dutch: www.deine-stimme-gegen-armut.de/stem.html
English: www.deine-stimme-gegen-armut.de/voice.html
French: www.deine-stimme-gegen-armut.de/voix.html

Portuguese: www.deine-stimme-gegen-armut.de/voto.html
Spanish: www.deine-stimme-gegen-armut.de/voz.html

Try to get as many signatures on this petition from your constituents before June 1st. 2007

4.. Can we also initiate a process of formulating other regional joint statements in response to the G-8 Communiqué that is expected on June 8 th? There will be a press statement from GCAP and its member coalitions immediately after the summit. The Africa group is already preparing their statement. Is there any possibility that we can prepare a statement from Asia and Latin America?
5.. A generic Opinion editorial piece has been circulated already to many of you via Ciara O'Sullivan, our Media Coordinator . Please try to personalize this to your local context and publish in the media where you are BEFORE the summit begins on June 6 th.
