All the women's groups *in mumbai* have decided to focus on *Increasing
atrocities and Increasing insecurities in lives of Dalit Women *as the focus
for 8th March this year also in the context of Khairlanji. This is going to
be a public event organised like a march by all women's groups. In mumbai
all organisations come together to celebrate 8th march and none of us do our
seperate program on that day and so it may not be possible to release the
report by us in mumbai. If you have any data on all india level as well as
specifically on maharshtra about situation of dalit women, then please do
send us. Thanks, regards - nandita shah, akshara

Thanks for your communication on International women's day observations. *In
Orissa*, I had discussed with National Alliances for women's organisation
(NAWO), other groups and alliances, who could jointly organise an event in
which we could release the book. I will let you know the details of the
event soon. with regards, Gitanjali Jena, Program Co-ordinator, CEPRA

Greetings from CECOEDECON and Wada na Todo Abhiyan-*Rajasthan*! We had a
planning meet of women groups, Kisan Sewa Samiti and some campaign partners
yesterday and chalked out a plan for International Women's day on March 8.
The lobbying event and reiteration of the Campaign demands will be in the
overall framework of " Har Mahila Swasth, Shikshit Aur Surakshit" (Every
Woman Healthy, Educated & Secure). To this, campaign in Rajasthan will add
"Saksham" to bring in the spirit and message of "empowerment", so very
crucial to the overall thrust of campaign designed especially to address
women issues. The campaign areas on 8th will be following: Chaksu-Phagi
(Jaipur district), Niwai and Malpura (Tonk district), Bali (Pali district),
Baitu (Barmer district), Karauli district. Besides, CECOEDECON is organizing
a fairly large programme on 8th in Shahbad in tribal dominated Baran
district.

However, the central message of WNTA and its main plank will be integrated
along with campaign materials. These are more or less same locations, which
stood up against poverty in October last year. This would help to sustain
the lobby work in these regions, keep public memories alive and build up the
pressure. The proposed activity will be a mix of public meets, sport/
cultural festivities and keep up the Holi fervor in Rajasthan. Women
representatives from SHGs, Federations, bal panchayats, PRIs, media,
*etc. *will
come together and call upon the government to keep the promises made (both
NCMP and those of the state government). We intend to use live camel
(replacing elephant and indicating tall claims) and goat to bring in and
arouse the curiosity element of local populace in all the proposed
locations. Thanks and regards, Krishna Kumar, Deputy Director (Policy),
Food, Trade and Nutrition Coalition-Asia (CECOEDECON)

Warm Greetings! I am writing to share with you our plans for highlighting
women specific issues/problems around the International Women Day. Since *Uttar
Pradesh* is a large state with diverse region specific problems, it was
decided that regional level Women Summit would be organized namely in
Western (Bareili), Eastern (Gazipur) & Bundelkhand (Chitrakoot). Hurdles
in access to Health, Education & Livelihood opportunities for women would be
discussed at each of these Summits from a regional perspective. Around 200
women are expected in each Summit, primarily consisting of Gram Pradhans,
Panchayat members, teachers, ASHA/ Anganwadi Workers & women workers of
member organizations. At the end of the summit a Charter of Demand specific
to women would be prepared and released. In view of the upcoming elections
in UP, the three regions specific Charter of Demand would be submitted to
leaders from all political parties in the last week of March. We would be
glad to release the report in all the three regional Summits as it clearly
blends with the agenda of the Summit. Since the events are organized at the
regional level, please do send us the Hindi version of report for the
release. Look forward to hearing from you, Payal Agarwal - Wada Nibhao
Abhiyan, UPVAN
