  Greetings.  

    a.. On MDG 1.  I would like to emphasize the relationship between ffd and MDGs, as related to ODAs and debt elimination.  The fact that the 0.7% is not met by the majority of developed countries is not only the result of financial crisis, it is also the lack of commitment from their part.  Would like to propose that there should be a mechanism (and may be sanctions) to ensure that ODAs and debt elimination are on the agenda of the developed countries. 
    b.. When it comes to climate change MDG 7.  Women are the most affected by climate change, In Africa, droughts and floods are very common now as a result of climate change.  The consequences on farmers (70% of farmers in Africa are women) and on displacement and immigration and housing are tremendous.  Would recommend taking this into consideration when planning on adaptation, mitigation, simple technologies, and especially financing. 
    c.. Would recommend to refer to the UNDP annual report to quote facts and figures on women and children mortality rates, HIV/AIDS and Malariah. 
    d.. Gender justice is still far from reach, we should continue to raise awareness at all levels

  In the past five years, a lot was done by FTF on raising women awareness and policy makers about women and poverty, this should continue on a larger scale taking into consideration the current challenges facing women and development.

  Dear all,
  as agreed upon Luisa has prepared a first draft of the strategic paper to present at the GCAP Global Assembly on "Women´s Rights and Gender Justice as a central issue of Poverty Eradication".
  She sent the text in Spanish (which you can see below) and I am attaching the English translation for all your comments, changes, additions, etc.
  It is important that when you read the draft and make suggestions, that you keep in mind that with this paper we should address the following issues:

    a) The key changes / developments that have taken place in the last three years in the given Strategic Theme; 
    b)   The major issues, challenges and opportunities that can be addressed by GCAP in the next three-five years

  Much needs to be added to the paper to respond to those two issues mainly taking into account that the paper is a motivation for a broader debate at the assembly.
  Please send your comments not later than Wednesday as we have to submit it to GCAP at the latest by Friday.

    ·             Desde la declaración de las conclusiones de la Cumbre del Milenio, los movimientos feministas han sido críticos con el minimalismo de los 8 objetivos que reducía todos los resultados de las múltiples cumbres de la mujer, sociales, de derechos humanos y del medio ambiente. Además de la reducción del trabajo de los organismos específicos creados por Naciones Unidas para el seguimiento de problemáticas particulares como la violencia contra las mujeres.

    ·             Las múltiples crisis (alimentaria, financiera, ecológica) desatadas en cascada desde el 2008, muestran los límites espectaculares del modelo de acumulación propuesto y reforzado por la Organización mundial del comercio, el Fondo monentario internacional, el Grupo de los 20, el Club de París, etc.

    ·             Estas crisis fueron previsibles. Los movimientos sociales, en su participación en los foros sociales mundiales, venían prediciendo las crisis desde el 2001. La economía del petróleo y de las energías fósiles se verificaba destructiva, limitante, excluyente y guerrera.

    ·             Las múltiples crisis golpean de manera proporcionalmente superior a las mujeres por ser el 70% de la población en pobreza.

    ·             Aunque los organismos multilaterales analizan las crisis de una manera parecida a los movimientos sociales, su gran diferencia deriva en sus recomendaciones que siguen la misma tónica que ha llevado a producirlas, mismo modelo económico, mismo paradigma de acumulación, consumo y depredación y violación de los derechos de la mayor parte de la gente, sobre todo de las mujeres.

    ·             Pese a una situación de profunda inseguridad del sistema planeta, los organismos de decisión no toman en cuenta como interlocutores del diálogo para encarar las soluciones a la sociedad civil, o la toma en cuenta de manera simbólica y sin poder de decisión, dejando estas en manos de quienes defienden los intereses de transnacionales y mundo financiero.

    ·                    Debe considerar la participación activa de la sociedad civil y en particular de las mujeres.

    ·                    Debe considerar un cambio de paradigma que abandone el modelo de acumulación, de consumo y especulación actual e imaginar un nuevo que se base en la producción real, la pequeña empresa y la pequeña agricultura, que se base en el respeto a la gente, que se centre en el bienestar de las mayorías y en el sentido de responsabilidad con respecto a asegurar la vida.

    ·                    Debe considerar la concretización de los derechos humanos en interdependencia.

    ·                    La solución a la pobreza debe considerar un compromiso político verdadero con un presupuesto viable, para aproximarse con énfasis a las metas al 2015.

    ·                    El 0.7% debe ser una base (pues se debería superar esa cifra) y una obligación de los Estados  de los países del Norte al 2015.

      I would suggest that you PLEASE send the first draft so we can move from there.
      PLEASE, again, to all of you, there is SOOOOOOOO much work these days, we really need the cooperation from all the team. 
      So, let´s have Luisa send a couple of ideas on this by not later than Wednesday. And you all please send your comments not later than Friday. In that way, by early next week I can send a consolidated document for your final comments and we will be on time for the 5th of September.
      Remember that it should not be longer than a page.
